Related to the historical badasses, mythological badasses may or may not be based on real people. For example: Chuck Norris, who is loosely based on Wyatt Earp.

My first badass: Cu Chullain. As far as I know, he was the first Celtic Strength Athlete, as well as a prototypically fierce warrior. In his final battle, he lashed himself upright to make sure he died on his feet.

Nathan Drake.

I cannot tell you how many people I've killed as Nathan Drake. Thousands?

But they were all shooting at me. No innocents involved. I don't think. I've use one or two hand grenades....

Rocky Balboa, Hercules, The Man with No Name (The Eastwood character in the "Dollars Trilogy" - A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly).

Peter, from 1978's "Dawn of the Dead".
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

The Man with no Name is so badass it's hard to sit still during the movies. (And coincidentally, I'm all primed to watch The Good the Bad and the Ugly this week.)

Beowulf is my favourite mythological badass, though. Kill Grendel, go to the Mead Hall and drink. Kill Grendel's dam, go to the Mead Hall to drink. Fight a dragon...

LOVE the song Johnny Cash does about him (John Henry's Hammer) on the Live at Folsom Prision album!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is my favorite western and darn close to my favorite movie. That's just a well-crafted, well-acted masterpiece. Right there with you on Beowulf (as well as the 20th century American version...Chief Brody!)

I'll leave that one up to the scholars, but I think most would agree that at least some of the stories about him are myths.
But maybe not the one about the big guy. Smile
