I think the majority of Nascar fans were deeply saddened when Dale Sr died.

They are putting Indy cars on tracks that are not capable of handling them. These are open wheeled cars if they hit wheels there is no place to go on a Nascar track. Indy cars are probably the fatest car in the world in a circular track. The track was to crowded for that many cars at those speeds. I have loved in listening to the Indy 500 and later seeing it through the years. I have only missed listening or watching the Indy 500 3 times in 60 years. But I digress. Could thishave been avoided? A difficult questionto answer. However we can safely say because of the amount of Indy cars in the race and the speeds they attain on a track such as this and their build (open wheels) compounded the possibility of such an accident.

They made this into a circus. They were actually willing to take drivers that were not Indy car drivers in this race. WHY? For ratings.

Slower is not the answer. Common sense is. There will always be the possibility of death in this sport just as there is the possibility of serious injury and death in football and any other contact sport. But that is not what draws the spectators to a sport. It is the ability of the athelete and in this instance the excellence of the drivers and the crews along with the percision of the machines they drive and maintain. Invitiing non Indy drivers into such a race is uncalled for whether it had an impact on this accident or not. It just shows where this sport is going.

Might as well play golf in thunder storms and make it more exciting. If someone gets struck by lightening they are allowed to continue if they can. Has to make for great ratings.

I don't think they go to see death. I think they want the crashes, but they want to see their heroes crawl out and wave at them in the end. (which does happen from time to time.)
