I don't mean to be ignorant, but what is "meh".
You should see Dean do this for the laymen that come into his barber shop... they ask him to do it again and again. Almost every magician he does it for buys it. I have had the same reaction. Thanks for the flame...it burned off the gas your message emitted.

I received this today and find it very clever and deceptive.
Perhaps it is an old principle but it is not one I personally knew and I found it fun. Much of this prediction effect happens in the spectators hands and seems very unlikely. |

Xiqual, sorry that I must intervene but I feel as though your posts are very arrogant and not necessary for these forums. Just saying it seems a tab bit immature.

The use of these kinds of words, and shortcuts in writing, like C U, and FWIW, just show a trend to laziness, and to many of us "regular folks" do not always know their meaning.
Posted: Dec 2, 2011 12:36pm This is a bit off subject, but. In Xiqual's posted URL there's a mention of the Simpsons. I do not watch that show. Why? Because the work is all done overseas, in Korea. This kills a lot of jobs here in the U.S.A. for animators, one such guy, now out of work is a very talented animator friend.

It's been in his working repertoire for 30 years. It may not be for you, but that doesn't mean it's a bad trick. Dean is no slouch; The Tonight Show doesn't book "meh" performers.

So anyway back to the trick. What is actually happening here? I mean is this a necklace (with no ends)? So the spectator grabs the neckalce and it breaks leaving them with the predicted amount of beads?

Isaiah,
I'm arrogant because I don't want to pay $40 for a set of plastic beads that come in every beginner's magic set? An effect that is pretty "just ok" anyway? Ok, call me arrogant then. James ps Eddie Garland says it's good, I do trust Eddie, although his dummy is freaking me out again. I thought I saw the eyes move just now. Any scary performance opps Eddie? Quote:

It's like saying "Oh Copperfield kills with the snowstorm, you should do it too." I was not calling Dean Dill a slouch. I just don't like this trick and I am tired of people referencing great magicians as reasons why we should buy effects. Anyway.... James Quote: On 2011-12-02 14:06, Andrew Zuber wrote:

Xiqual, you're bit rude. Un called for to rant about something you cant do anything about anyway. I do appreciate your input, but you could be a bit more professional. OK enough of that back to the trick!!!!

The price of admission to this was worth it for me...I did not know the method and it fooled me.
I never encounter it in any beginners magic set...but I doubt it would have been given the same spin as Mr. Dill. I'm around kids a great deal, kids that request magic and expect to see variety. These beads are colorful, so common and innocent and can be handled by a child. They think of a number, they hold the beads stretched between their own two hands, they pull, break the chain, count the beads and are simply amazed. I'm indeed surprised at my own families reaction to Dean's Beads...they kinda were more fascinated and fooled by it than I expected. I think it must be the physical sensation of pulling the beads apart, the breaking, it feels to the spectator like a random act with no possible control. If you wanted to go spooky with them I would recommend using the beads to simply, confidently force a needed number in some darker plot. |

Eddie, nice review I like it. Thank you Your description of the volunteers is what most people are looking for.

There are quite a few variations as well. The performer can hand an end to two different spectators and it will still work. He has a great CAAN version...or maybe it's ACAAN. Or ESP, I dunno. What matters is he's obviously put a lot of thought into it, and it may seem simple and bland, but it fries everyone that sees it. As Eddie says, you'll be surprised at the reactions you get with this versus all kinds of other material that you've spent years working on. I was skeptical when I first saw the necklace...then Dean did the routine and I couldn't stop thinking about it.
