Magicians in Bangladesh are up in arms against a decision to demolish the ancestral home of legendary Indian magician PC Sorcar.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

So they are sporting AK-47's and rocket launchers? Or is it more of a pitch fork and torch kind of thing?

Most of these guys are probably Muslims, Magnus, and might not appreciate that image . . . just saying.

Why would Muslims be offended by a statue of Vishnu?

I don't blame them for being up in arms about that. Too many historic places are torn down anymore for too many stupid reasons. Humans just can't leave much of anything alone anymore.

I think that you are right in that a stature of Vishnu would be completely inoffensive to the people in question. My Taliban crack was supposed to be sad and mildly funny, as time has softened our reaction to the Taliban's destruction of Hindu images a few decades back. Looks like a failed there too. Let's just smile at the "up in arms" gag and move on. John

They were Buddhist images. And it wasn't a few decades back, it was in March 2001. The Buddhas of Bamiyan were the single most consequential achievement of Afghan art. As for the effects of time on this singular act of ignorant savagery, you are speaking only for yourself.

Yes, Woland, they were Buddhist. My mistake. And only 2001? Wow. Memory is a strange thing; I really thought it was from about 1990.
Regardless, my Vishnu image was funny, dammit.
