I love this idea... and consider it a near-perfect solution to the too-perfect nature of almost all levitation-type IT applications. What do you think?

I like the little flying saucer but I don't think it would be percieved as magic. There really are toy saucers that do this (not this small though).
If the fairies work with IT then kids will be dissapointed. If they don't use IT I want one. |

It is the classic hummingbird card plot but with a ufo instead. it is true that the use of a ufo is very elegant, trustful and unique. My concern regards the fact that this appears a lot sophisticated and the magic loses its organic roots.
if incorporated into a full act it may be a very good choice. same for fairy |

I bought the Fairie thing last year when another member pointed it out here at the Café. Not a bad little toy that involves IT. You don't have to use the wand to make it levitate or animate it's wings. You can use any hook up you like.
I don't use it in my shows, but I will admit that it would be a cool effect for the right performer.

The fishes: I can see them "swimming" around the curtain during a (comedy?) Water Tank Escape...
The fairies: Could be beautiful as a complement to a Flying Butterflies act, maybe. With nice music. :)

Air Swimmers should be now at your local Toys R Us store. I might buy one as a preshow thing.

Thank You for that link Ustaad. That is about the sweetest magic instruction I've ever seen. They cleverly kept it all magical for the kids by calling the IT pixie silk and explaining that that here in our realm they need a connection to a believer to fly.
So I take back my previous comment. Girls of the proper age will probably not be dissapointed that it works by IT. This oompany has put a lot of thought into this. I think I'm going to order a couple for my neices soon. |

This should be banned IMHO. Young girls will play with it, break the IT...and the rest is history.
Why reveal a magic secret for a toy?! Those folks are just out there to make a quick buck and don't respect or care about the performing magicians who earn a living with that secret they so freely expose. Now every time a girl (or boy) who owns one of these watches a levitation effect are gonna scream: "Look Mommy that's done with pixie silk!" I have a 5 year old daughter but I would not endorse this... My two cents.
Magic, in essence, is the ability of conjuring spirits who help the magician accomplish astonishing feats.

Part of what magician's do is to take little known technology and use it to create " magic". We have to stay ahead of the curve. It is too our advantage that IT remains a secret but we don't have any right to it.
If no one had ever discovered uses for magnets they would have remained obscure little secrets for magician's. But every one knows about magnets. We still use them but have to hide them and disguise their use. That instructional video is quite charming. This company didn't just make a great looking demo and then sell the kids a playing card with IT wrapped around it. They thought of every detail from the hook up to how to store it at night. Some kids (not all) will be good at setting this up and using it. Kids are actually better equipped as far as eye sight and hand coordination than a lot of us older adults to handle this sort of thing. |

I think the fairy thing is nice. Modified so they don't look so gawdy, maybe made a bit smaller, could be used as a neat effect. who cares if a few kids know how it's done?
A kid saying 'its done with fairy silk', I doubt would ruin it for anyone in earshot? I had a similar idea ages ago like a Dlite with wings, but couldn't find a practical way to make the wings move. Now someone made it for me! |

Whoever sold him that rubbish hook up must have been out to make a quick buck !!" |
