I've been writing a magic blog off and on since 2006. However, over the last year or so, I've really tried to ramp it up with posts at least every week or two. I've put a lot of time and effort into it. Most of the posts are my honest thoughts about magic products. However, I post other content as well. I've been attempting to increase the amount of video I have on the blog, which I think will help me reach a new audience.
I've received a lot of great feedback from magicians, but I'm always interested in improving. Is there anything I could be doing better? Is the navigation clear? Is this something that you would be interested in reading regularly? How do you think I could increase my readership? The site was built using WordPress, is there a plugin that you think would be worth me using? I would love to hear any comments or suggestions you may have. Thanks so much for checking it out. The best thing I can think of would be to start stats tracking (assuming you haven't already). It's a great guide to figuring out what content is appealing to your audience and getting passed around, versus the stuff that's not.

I like your blog and always read your posts. I don't have huge suggestions for you because I think the site works pretty well. The layout is easy to read and the categorization down the left side is good.
If you want advice on increasing traffic, I guess the first thing I'd ask is why you want to build traffic. If it's to get your stats up so you can attract advertising (which isn't, I would imagine, your goal), then it's about maximizing your SEO, trying to get as many people to link back to you, and creating content that will go virally into the blogosphere. If it's just to make more people aware of your work, then it's really about the content and the frequency of posting. I'm alerted to your posts through RSS, so I don't miss them. (You could use Feedburner to add an RSS tab to the site). But for people who bookmark and check your site, it's all about having something new for them to they don't get disinterested and stop checking you out. Posting every day helps make the site people something want to return to, even if a post is just a clip or a link with a sentence or two of commentary. As for plug-ins, I'm not an expert here, but I have a site that uses a Wordpress plug-in called "Yet Another Related Post Plug-In" that creates a little menu bar under each post with links to what it discerns are similar posts. That might be something to try to up your page views. |
