Hey all. I was just thinking last week how much I appreciate that people have been posting here regularly. But now we've all disappeared again. I like to think that we have a nice little corner of the Café were we can advance the balloon industry apart from the hundreds of pairs of eyes on some more popular balloon forums. This is actually the only balloon forum I read regularly. And one of the only two areas I check regularly in the Café, Little Darlings being the other. I literally log on and if there is nothing new in LD or B101, I rarely look elsewhere. What about you guys? Why are you here?

I'm here. I don't have much to say, but I have been working on new magic tricks with balloons. I think that works in very well with a balloon twister/magician such as myself. I've just did Repaired by Michael Kent twice yesterday and that worked out quite well. It does require practice but the concept is simple. I've been practicing quarter in balloon, which is a little harder maybe - mostly tying the balloon is the hard part. I do Pressure all the time, but not with a cell phone, and I've got other balloon magic in the works. How about you guys, do any magic with balloons? I frequently put rubber balls in the 260's for "racing roller coasters" or "dog that ate a cookie" and kids love that - it seems like a magic trick to them and the adults are often amazed by that too. FYI, I found the best price at Oriental Trader - they are graduation 2011 balls with a graduation cap printed on them, but no one notices or cares. I bought $60 worth cause I use them so much.

I've never used a bouncy ball, I just make the balls out of balloons right in front of the audience. They think that is one of the coolest part. Plus it's nice not having to carry around bouncy balls.

Joker,
yes I used to do that and still do sometimes. I think the balls move around in the balloon a little better because of the weight, they are a little easier than using the top of the balloon, they don't deflate, and if the whole thing pops then they have something to keep. Also I usually do a magic trick with the ball that kids love - I hand it to them (but really I keep it palmed), then act surprised because I just handed it to them, then pull it out of their ear. Then many of the kids want me to make the same balloon and want me to do the same trick.

Joker, I just looked at your site. Your balloons are great. You are much more advanced than me. I grew up in Cleveland and then lived in Columbus till I moved to Oregon in 05'. Do you know Dizzy Doc (Aaron Hay)? I used to be an agent in Columbus and booked everyone there. I even booked a little in Cleveland a long time ago.

Dan,
Very cool. I'm sure that's a great presentation with the bouncy balls. My LEAST favorite thing about twisting though is making the same thing over and over again! Ha! So to each his own on that end. Where did you grow up in Cleveland? Yes, I know Doc. We've done a few "larger than life" projects together.

I've been on the Café for a few years, and I usually hang out in whichever forum applies to me the most. Since I got into balloons, I've pretty much been living in this area of the Café.
I keep two tabs on my iPhone dedicated to the Café, one for B101, and the other to whichever area I happen to be lurking (currently "the workers")
Weird is part of the job.

I have to say I think this is the friendliest forum on the magic Café, I stopped posting on the other forums a while back because of the rudeness and arrogance of some of the members, I normally just read but don't post for this reason, but the ballooners all seem to be genuinly helpful nice people, so like you I only tend to check this forum unless I have a specific question I want to look up.

I find that on a face-to-face level as well that balloon artists are pretty cool people. I have lots of theories on why that I won't get into. Conventions, jams, and large projects are always very fun and rewarding experiences because of the kinds of people involved.

I switched to doing more balloons than magic thanks to the help first gained in this forum. I haven't been browsing the Café much lately, other interests taking up my online time.
I'm a bit sad that we won't be at T&S 2012 in Arizona. But, that's only because we have other big family plans for 2012. If it's in driving distance of PA in 2013, Olivia and I will be back. As for why I'm here now, well it's that time of year when I check in to see what amazing costume you're taking out to the contests! |

It's been a busy last few months for me. Now with the end of the fall parties things will slow down until X-Mas. Looking forward to a little down time!It will give me time to learn some new things and maybe get my balloon show off the ground.
Life of Magic!
