<<Physicists are notorious for believing that other scientists are mathematically incompetent. And University of California-Berkeley physicist Richard Muller is notorious for believing that conventional wisdom is often wrong. For example, the conventional wisdom about climate change. Muller has criticized Al Gore in the past as an "exaggerator," has spoken warmly of climate skeptic Anthony Watts, and has said that Steve McIntyre's famous takedown of the "hockey stick" climate graph made him "uncomfortable" with the paper the hockey stick was originally based on.>>

So in one sense, its impact is limited since the smarter skeptics have already abandoned the idea that warming is a hoax and now focus their fire solely on the contention that it's man-made. (And the even smarter ones have given up on that, too, and now merely argue that it's economically pointless to try to stop it.) Still, the fact that climate scientists turned out to be careful and thorough in their basic estimates of temperature rise surely enhances their credibility in general. Climategate was always a ridiculous sideshow, and this is just one more nail in its coffin. Climate scientists got the basic data right, and they've almost certainly gotten the human causes right too." Climategate was by no means not a "ridiculous sideshow." It revealed that quite a bit of what was previously believed by many was quite mistaken. Not about the data, though; about the scientists.

Whoops! One too many negatives. That should read, of course, "...was by no means a ridiculous sideshow..."

Well no matter what the situation is I still think it's a good idea to do little things like using the reusable shopping bags and putting recyclables in the blue bingie. Can't hurt. And the reusable shopping bags are stronger than those flimsy plastic things.

Does it hurt anybody that I use a backpack rather than all those plastic bags? Who am I hurting? And having a bit of respect for the environment doesn't constitute worship. I clean my toilet because I don't like to sit down on a dirty one; but that doesn't mean I worship my toilet or those who advocate toilet cleaning. In the same way, I really don't see the harm in cutting back our use of plastics or gasoline or sugar or meat or whatever. Why should living moderately be some kind of conspiracy? Where is Carrie-Sue, anyway? Carrie-Sue where are you? |

Re: bag washing
Good idea, but I'd be more worried about the jars and fruits that people put their filthy hands all over and sneeze on. Yuck. At least I know I'm the only one touching my bag if I use the self-check and I use a lot of hand sanitizer. That's just my OCD talking. Nevermind.
