Behold the $130 Check DC Comics Wrote in 1938 for the Exclusive Rights to Superman:

"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."
"The dog did nothing in the night-time."
"That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes.

It was no Louisiana Purchase. But still a pretty darn good deal.

I knew of DC Comics for years and years...but I never knew what DC stood for until now!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

True, that.

But speaking of the Louisiana Purchase: that was a great deal, to be sure. But for about the same price (as I recall; some of you can look it up and find out I'm full of doodie) we got all the territory we wanted from Mexico. (Sure, we went to war first. Because those darned Mexicans wouldn't sell!) That territory included California, which (no insult to anyone anywhere please) is, economically speaking, worth the entire Mississippi valley. Las Vegas alone gets back the money the US Federal government paid to Mexico IN A DAY!

(OK, maybe not. Sounds really cool to say it, though.)

The Jekyll Island Deal - Was this the best deal ever?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Free is usually a good deal. Last year there was a guy on a weightlifting forum who gave me some Power Hooks and even paid the shipping just because it was Christmas. Guy didn't know me from Elvis. Good deal. Good dude.

I hear there used to be a guy around here who sent free D'lites to people all over the place.

Best deal ever? Probably Martin Nash's The Earl's Dilemma.

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

Partner in the business of DC/AC/EC comics was Max Gaines who died in 1947 due to a missing head leaving his holdings as well as the ORIGINAL artwork for Superman to his son Bill Gaines who went on to start all kinds of horror magazines and a lil' magazine called MAD. When Bill died he donated the original artwork to the Smithsonian (or some other large museum).

Yeah...Justin Style was a cool dude. Always had contests of sorts where the winner (and there was usually a dozen of them) got loads of D'Lites, and a couple of other goodies.

Back to point...good deal on Superman. A friend in Vegas let me sleep on his couch for a week, guy was a mile from the strip. Cost me a six-pack. That was a pretty sweet deal.

There are some very cool people on the internet. Sometimes it's important to remind ourselves that it's not all trolls out here in the pixelated world.

What a heartbreak this story is. S&S for Superman, Lugosi's heirs for Dracula, Percy Crosby's heirs for Skippy peanut butter (even Charles Schulz went to bat for them) The original star Trek cast earning nothing after the second repeating of the show and on and on.
