He stole the act itself. A performance (read script) can be copyrighted and, as such, damages can be recovered when that is infringed upon. If Hans took the same illusions but told a different story with them, it would be a non-issue.

I love that line.

It reminds me of the rock band, Saxon. The lead singer's idea of showmanship was to lean toward a large fan while it blew his hair back. I saw them in concert when they opened for Aldo Nova and Cheap Trick back in '83. That memory was good for another laugh!
