I saw him today at the Kutztown convention in the close up room, and his rope work was astounding.

It is very hard to say, because his technique is so perfect. He told me that his rope work is on his 2002 DVD. All I can say about it was he was doing stuff that I can't do.

Al, I really doubt it.

He called his routine his version of the Tabary rope routine. There may not be anything new in rope magic, but the way he does it just humbled me.

There are some talented guys out there, and the Tabary moves lend itself to branch off to some extra effects. I will bet if you took it slow, you could do just as well. Maybe even come up with some cool new move as well.

I just saw a still shot of Ogawa un-knotting a loop in a knotted rope ring. It reminded me of a Slydini move I saw in a lecture last night.

I've seen a little of his rope stuff at a lecture and it was really nice.

He did the same moves that I do, but his handling is so precise that it looks like a whole nother thing altogether. I remember saying the same thing to myself after watching Shigeo Takagi with a piece of rope, and a pair of scissors. I guess It's Japanese thing, Shoot joked about how perfect he has to be in Japan.

Did not see his lecture, but Shoot has his 2011 Lecture on DVD. Could it be on this DVD?

http://www.holyshoot.com/magicshop.htm Scroll down a little on the page.

Harry Murphy just seen Shoot Ogawa lecture this past weekend. Maybe he will chime in.

Al and I were both there. As Al mentions Shoot's technique was flawless. Shoot's routine reminded me of the first time I ever saw Tabary do his routine. It took my breath away. In fact Shoot's looked a lot like Tabary's on steroids! It was very (very, very) polished and practiced.

Shoot did mention in conservation that his routine is based on Tabary's. I believe the routine can be found on his 2002 lecture DVD (Shoot in USA 2002).

Yes, the 2002 note on his site say it has his rope routine based on Tabary material.

You mean I missed you, I wish we could have talked?

Shoot's rope work is on his 2002 DVD. Tabary on steroids is a perfect description of what he does.

BTW
Harry I bought that Gregory Wilson "exact change" routine, and I have been doing for everybody I see. It is so simple, yet it kills. Are you going to Super Sunday?

Al,

I was in and out at Kutztown. I used it as an excuse to visit friends in the area. I went specifically to see Shoot work. He's breathtakingly skilled! His practice and rehearsal sure pays off! I think that at my best I was never as good as he is at his worse! I was going to dig out the old 2002 lecture DVD to see if the rope work was on it and I remembered it correctly. Thanks for saving me the trouble.

After watching him perform his routine I will still have to dig the DVD out and re-watch it and try to polish my own routine (as if I had a routine! LOL!!).

I agree about Gregory’s Exact Change. Wow! I don’t have it (yet) but believe it to be a killer concept! Knowing that you have it, use it, and it kills for you is high praise for the prop/effect. Now to get ahead in the magic money department so I can get it.

I doubt if I’ll make Bob’s Super Sunday. It is almost a 5-hour hike for me. If it was on a Saturday I could make it. Sunday just doesn’t work right now. If something happens to free up the Monday following and I can make it I’ll let you know so we can hang out and cut up jackpots!

I thought I had everything that rope magic had to offer, but this DVD is a must have for me.

I have been working on my street show all last Summer, and I would love to share a pitch with you next Spring.
