This looks really interesting. It just appeared on Hocus Pocus. Anyone have it or comments about it? From the video, it appears to work without any limitations with no need to handle it. You have to just look at the pad.

I think the inherent weakness of this, is that they can't tear out the page they've written in...ergo...

its not natural to write something in a notepad and then leave it in there...

an envelope is natural, because of its inherent nature (for security/keeping it safe and isolated etc)....

I have an idea for something you could make out of it that would appear normal, and be very useful to a mentalist...but definitely not a notepad I'm afraid...

It does look like it has the possibility to be very clean and I like the instant p**k but I do have some concerns as to the handling by the spectators (such as the Gimmick it self) and some of the angles. I have a good idea as to what the method is and wonder if this would be somewhat questionable by certain spectators.

The way I would perform this is I mention to the spectator to write for example a word, as I do this I action this instruction to the spectator as I open the pad. I explain that when my back is turned, when you have finished writting, put the pen down like this (as I put the pen down) I also then close the pad so they see me do this which will indicate that is the instruction that I want them to follow - but don't mention closing the pad. I then explain my back will be turned whilst you do this so I cant see what they are writting.

I then would say have you finished, when they say yes I then say... so when I turn round I cant see what you have written. If at this point the pad is still open they will then immediatly close it. As I turn round I get my peek and say something like... So you have written a word to which you have now folded up and is in your pocket. They will then say that I never instructed them to do this, I apologise as I thought that is what I asked them to do. I then turn back around and say, sorry please take the piece of paper out and fold it up and put it in your pocket.

I have quicky rushed through that, but hope you get the idea. The idea being a completly logical and innocent way to have got the info, and a logical way and reason to have looked at the pad so then the spectator can then rip the page out.

Just an idea & hope that helps

Good Idea! Nothing fishy by admitting you the performer forgot to give complete instructions. As you stated- perfectly logical.

Yes please Tony, if you could please give us perhaps a mini review and your thoughts about the pads that would be great. I think this is a very clever and clean peek devise. I do intend picking up one of the pads but not sure which size yet.

Im glad you like the idea above guys. When performing mentalism (not mental magic) it is very important that everything needs to be logical and everything has a reason. By using the above 'forgetful' instruction, this should add logic to ripping the page out whilst getting the peak.

Another approach would be immediately to seal the closed pad in an opaque envelope for a "challenge" or "test conditions" type demonstration. One might refer to the pad as a "notebook." Notebooks are commonly used to take and maintain notes, which makes it logical NOT to tear out the participant's note or drawing. That, combined with sealing the notebook in an envelope, would seem to make the thought even more secure than if it were removed from the notebook and could make for a dramatic and convincing demonstration, especially if some time is allowed to elapse between sealing the thing up and the reveal.

Just a thought,

You could also seal the pad in a zip lock bag to enhance the "test conditions"

Tony,

I ordered them both earlier today, I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.

I wont trust things that rely on some filtering: too easy to get the wrong angle and light

I agree, I don't use the other item using this, but everything has it's place.
For me it is another option, notepad, wallet, peek, ct, steam, others, all options.

Tony ...What is your feeling on this method. Perhaps a PM to help me. Your opinion is certainly appreciated. I see it for sale at $38 at a distributor and wonder if it is worth that? Thanks!!!
