I think the future is more Bladerunner than Star Trek.

Road Warrior, Terminator, Zombies, whatever. As long as I get my post-apocalyptic wasteland to rule before I die then I'll be happy.

I sure would like to have the Medical resources available in the Star Trek world.

The Star Trek Federation can produce anything one desires and remove greed from the equation.
The Holodeck can create any desire, want to be a rock star, an illusionist or be on a beach. No need to buy these things. Want Gold? Ask the computer, but it's worthless. In this world education is priceless. You rise in rank based on what you love to do. Money: It's a beautiful concept, nothing has monetary value, just by removing money from the equation. Health: pretty much everything can be replaced and disease is going, or at least easily cured. Power: Well, a country is small when you are running the universe. This will be the only problem for power hungry individuals.

Go to the zoo and look at the gorillas. The silverback is always bald and the chicks totally dig him.
Male pattern baldness is the mark of the alpha male. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. John

BTW: For baldness I was talking about Picard. For obesity, Kirk and Scott in later movies.

Kirk was hardly obese in any of the movies.

Star Trek view of the future might be overly idealistic, but I like it's theme of progress for the human species and exploring the universe and the continual progression of the species. Progress doesn't come without challenges in Star Trek episodes though. I think most people would prefer to live in the Star Trek world rather than a Star Wars world. One could argue that both worlds are possible.

Was just watching some DS9 on Netflix and noticed that everybody uses iPads. Spooky.
