I just came across this post tonight. I worked with Andre' for 9 years (1987-1996), and had the opportunity at times to assist with the levitation. It is hard to communicate the feelings I had during the performance of this incredible illusion. Very surreal as Andre levitated and the lights flashed and the music played. No doubt my favorite of all his illusions.

I'll never forget - when I was first "auditioning" to work with Andre (which I ended up doing for 3 years), I was privileged to join the team for a few shows in Michigan. While there, I was allowed backstage during the show. I ended up standing about 8 feet SR from Andre while he was levitating. Even from that vantage point I had no idea how it worked. Phenomenal!

She was an extremely charismatic and attractive performer, and she and Tim performed as 2 magicians rather than as magician/assistant. I remember one performance of the torch suspension, Tim had trouble getting her up on the torch correctly and she wouldn't stay up. She kind of half fell as Tim still had a hold of her so she didn't fall hard or anything. But it was an obvious flub and you could see the "Fyre" in her eyes, she was ANGRY. She just shook her head and walked offstage leaving Tim standing there. He really had no choice but to follow her off. I thought it was very unprofessional of her. I also remember seeing Pam assisting during some of the magic segments on the old "Circus of the Stars" TV specials. Too bad no one knows what her story is. She must have gotten out of magic years ago. |

JNeal writes: Actually, I still here from Pam usually once or twice a year. She left 'Fyre and Kole' (or was replaced for a more 'compliant' partner, by management). In a sense she got taken advantage of. She helped create the act using her fairly extensive experience, and was replaced with a dancer of no magical experience. Pam also lost her equity in the props etc; The show then went to South Africa and she was hired for about a weeks' duration for the grand opening....just to make sure her replacement was up to speed and capable! I know ....I was there! It was most upsetting to Pam. A year or so later, she created her own individual act and performed in a show at the Mayfair Music hall in Santa Monica in a show with Dirk Arthur as I recall. but it was a Vegas kind of show...and ended up going nowhere. Several years after that, I ran into her in Hollywood Magic and she told me she was married now. She and her husband invited my wife (and partner) Liane and I to dinner and we had a great time reminiscing. I learned that she was doing public family type shows sponsored by the city of Covina (?) and did her magic show on regular basis. She was emailing me for magic related info on an occasional basis and we are still hearing from her now and again.. I last heard from her when she invited us to a birthday party for herself, about 5 months ago. I'm happy to report that she seems very content with her life and level of involvement in magic and is still a genuinely nice person! Pam was never less than a total professional. She had spent years onstage assisting and she knew how to adapt to the quirks of more than one performer's personality. In Spellbound' she was promised a co-partner role and they kept trying to make her less than equal. I can vouch for the fact that she 'saved' more than one performer's reputation and 'butt' during her years onstage....With all due respect, if she walked offstage...she probably had some justification. Interesting. I only worked with Pam the one time with Harry Blackstone when he played Akron.
Nice to know that she has went on with her life and seems content in it. Richard

Yes, you are absolutely right JNeal, that wasn't fair of me to describe what was probably the only (or one of very few) small mishaps in her career, and it wasn't even her fault. Tim Kole was still pretty young and green at that time. The reason it even stands out in my memory is because on so many levels she was the STAR of that show and really outshone everyone else by a large margin, even Mark Kalin if the truth be told, whom I have the highest respect for. I apologize to her and those who know her because I no doubt gave the wrong impression. I should have emphasized her talent, which was tremendous. She had so much charm, grace and charisma, that anyone who saw her perform would think "wow, that girl has got it, she's going places". I overheard many comments like that from lay people after each performance. It was almost 25 years ago that I saw Pam in that show, and to even remember her at all, let alone remember her name is a testament to how talented and professional she is, and what an impression she could make. I'm glad to hear she is still performing. She could light up a stage like very few can. When she was partnered with Tim they remind me a lot of the Pendragons in their prime. She could definitely hold her own and I admired the fact that she wanted to be an equal magician and not just another pretty assistant. I always assumed that I would see her again in future shows in Vegas or somewhere because she possessed such a "star" quality, and I was surprised that never happened. I wouldn't doubt that whomever she worked with could get somewhat of an inferiority complex, she was quite a force and it would be difficult to be noticed if you were onstage next to her. I have to say that back then, Tim really paled in comparison. So sorry Pam, wish you all the best.
