Matthew, that's correct, there was a recent UMD printing - they are the same as before. They are available through Murphy's, so any reputable dealer should be able to supply them for you.

How were they able to do this given the USPCC's ban on altering card backs, jokers, and the Ace of Spades?
Have they changed their policy (yet again)?

It's a very good question - I'm not sure. Somehow they managed to slip another run through, but from what I've heard it's definitely the very last time. So stock up now, I don't think we'll see factory-printed Rider Backs again. To my knowledge, the policy on altering trademarks has not changed again.

Thanks.

Also, can someone tell me if the markings on the UMD are in the same place on each card, vs being in different locations such as on a Boris Wild. I'm looking for a marked deck that has the markings in the exact same spot on each card.

I recently discovered Andy Nyman's The Code and think it's a nice deck and love the markings. For those that may have both, how do the two different decks compare (UMD and The Code)? Pros, Cons?

Thanks guys,
Matthew

Try the "Low Vision Marking System" for the Bicycle Rider Back 808 deck.

LVMS is a blockout DIY toolbox for the generation "reading glasses". LVMS offers readability up to a distance of approximately 90 cm (one yard).

By combining the described methods, it is possible to mark the card itself, its stack number, the preceding and the succeeding cards at the back.

Yes, the UMD has the marks in the same place - in a very similar location to The Code. UMD has the suits represented as their actual symbol, whereas The Code has the suit as a letter. For me UMD is a little easier to read, but I use both. The Code obviously has more info available on it.

I love the Code as well - as others have said, you can achieve the same thing with a self-marked deck, but I find the quality and cost of the Code decks to be excellent. Andy's sampling of effects that can be achieved is quite nice as well. I use this deck for numerous effects with the same audience and never, ever have had anyone even attempt to examine the cards for markings. To a lay audience, it's just a regular bicycle deck.

If you are a bit open and want Casino Quality, why not try the Phoenix Marked Deck? The design was built around the marking in first place, the regular deck of Phoenix is the Marked Deck with the markings removed. That way the markings are well hidden, twice as big as the UMD and will definitely stay in print, so you do not have to buy them in large quantities... Smile
This is true "reverse engineering".

I can attest after trying at lest 5 popular marked decks on the market. These ones are awesome. I am so glad I made the switch to Phoenix brand. Little by little, this brand will become a major player in the card magic world. Check out 1 new release and what I was able to accomplish http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=218

Very many years ago when living in the Chicago area, I purchased a red, hand-marked Bee deck (overall small diamond hatch pattern) from the KC Card Company. I might actually still have it somewhere in "deep storage" (like in a box behind other boxes somewhere in my garage). PM me and I can maybe describe the marking system to you, as well as I can remember it anyway.

I recall that one of the selling points from KC was that they used original inks from the manufacturer to do the hand-marking. I also remember that the deck cost me $3.50, which was serious money to a teenager back in the mid-1950s. (!)
