Does anybody know who designed these? I got a set, roughly 30 years ago, and like them a lot.

I bought a 2nd hand set from German magician

Karl Brenner in 1981.

He claimed he had bought them from Jack Sholomir

who allegedly had been the first to use them

in Europe. How much of this was sales spiel

as opposed to "truth" I do not know.

Some years ago I did find out that Sholomir

left South Africa, and performed as a magician

and escapologist in England for a time.

I still love using this prop due to its simplicity.

A lightwieght version used to be sold in Hamleys and Elisdons catalogue,,,which made them available to the general public as well !!
