He needs to delete ALL the email address people have sent him in good faith over the years.
It may be a "free" resource, but his inability to properly secure his mailing list indicates he's got no business being in possession of anybodies email address in the first place. He seems to take little or no responsibility for what's happened over the past couple of days, which speaks volumes as to how our email addresses are being handled. |

This is just hilarious.
Now we even have "STOP SPAMMING, and I'll stop SPAMMING" messages. And I thought I was immature But really, is there even a problem with what happened? other than ignorant magicians replying to a curious message? I'm guessing there is only if the original message was sent by a non-subscriber. Whoever it was, they really know how to create interest with just a few words. We should be so curious with our "patter"! It excites me to learn how furious magicians get over something so stupid.

BTW, somewhere in the recesses of my mind, I recall an email spam protection program that requires anyone sending you an email to first do something on a one-time basis. I think what the program did was to send out an instruction of some sort that the sender had to respond to and then, they were cleared and that email and all future emails from that email adders would go through. Does this ring a bell with anyone, and, if so, what is/are the name(s) of that program(s)?

Turk,
why not relax and read my posts above for an easy solution that is possible for most email clients. Then you can join in the fun instead of becoming one of the furious

Maybe we're all getting different numbers of messages. In the past 5 hours, I got about half a dozen. Are you getting more?

I'm just sad because the spamming stopped and I no longer get to see magicians get furious over trivial things in life.
How do they handle hecklers?

My favourite part has been the aggressive angry email replies back. Surely if you have 30 odd emails in your inbox with the same heading you would check the last one rather than just spamming everyone back. It has been entertaining but I did as I wrote in my first post, changed the filter and didn't receive anymore emails after the first 60.
I really hope you guys are able to host the files because it has been so useful. So much info that I could never afford to buy or possibly even find |

I didn't reply to any of the messages. I just emailed Marco informing him of the problem. I am deeply saddened by the solution he chose. This was a magnificent resource and I am heartbroken to see it go. Can't be angry with Marco though. I can understand his time constraints. This was after all a free resource. Must have taken him quite some effort to set it all up. Hopefully someone else can host the files.
Good luck to you, Marco! Ciao for now Erik

It was amazing to me after the first wave of emails hit the inbox that folks kept sending out notes asking for it to stop and apparently didn't notice they were perpetuating the problem. In the end there were 2 simple fixes - either filter in your email program to stop them from coming in, or unsubscribe from the distribution list to take your email address off the list. Now this great resource has shut down, likely all really caused by a non-magi starting the problem by spamming and using the email distribution list address. Real sad, I hope Marco will allow someone else to carry on the Learned Pig Project.

This whole thing is stupid. You got spammed. So what? A really great site got shut down. It's not because anybody got spammed, it's because a lot of people acted like idiots over it. No one is to blame for it. It happens. Get over it. If you can't accept that these things are going to happen periodically, get off the internet. You're not adult enough to use it.
