1 standard Vernet, 1 giant Vernet, 2 D'Lites
Exposure of the TT has not been a problem for me. Especially when performing for young children. Though I don't use it as much as I used to. I dropped the D'Lites after a MagicZone kiosk pushed them through the Xmas season at the local mall I poke the silk down into my fist, but I use my index and middle fingers, as well as my thumb to poke it in. I always finish with thumb, index, middle, in that order. I use my giant Vernet for a long streamer, or a long loop of string, either one produced from another silk. In this way, people really can't see what's going on. |

I think the idea behind a thumbtip is that if used properly, the audience never knows that it's in play. So, why would exposure be a problem?
Anyone familiar with Roger Klause's "The Name is the Same" or "Sponge Ball Up Sleeve"? Two routines from Ammar's Encore 3 that use the thumbtip perfectly. Now THAT is good handling! |

I agree with mithrius. exposure should not be an issue if you use a tip properly.
You may need to be creative and come up with or research new routines. If you feel that everyone knows where the silk goes, learn a bill switch or a salt pour or any of a hundred other routines that you can be sure laymen have never seen. I only carry one but I use it for multiple effects MARK |

I carry one, have one in my case as a back-up and one at home as an extra.
As for exposure, I remember reading about a bet between two magi that one could perform with a bright red TT and not get caught. If memory serves me right the wearer of the bright red TT won the bet.

I actually carry 3 -- each a with a little extra something. I have so much confidence in using TT now that I always like to show off what they can do.

I have seen African American (Black) magicians use the same color TT as I use. And they don't get busted either!
If you handle it right, no one seems much of it. And as with most magic, if you keep it moving they won't be able to focus on it anyway. In addition to more TT's than I will ever use, I have several FT's and a couple of Sonatas too. TT is the most flexible, but you can do some amazing things with the other gimmicks too! BroDavid

Talk about exposer ... my three year old got a JR. magic kit .. were talking like 4 items. TT was included. I just cant stand it. I grabbed it before my wife saw it and son realized it. I took it and got rid of it like it was a hidous peice of art given to you by a relative. As a matter of fact I got rid of it so quick I forget what I did with it. As long as the real lay people don't see it atleast I will still be GOD in my house.
PS I had a 4 year old scream its in your finger ... (silk) I guess she hasn't learned yet that you cant open up your finger and insert stuff with out blood comming out |

I own 20. In my stand up shows I may use up to 4. One dirty (for cigarette vanish), one clean for intercessor or a silk vanish (used strictly in combo with other routines-never as a solo silk vanish) and a tip used in an escape routine (killer effect).
