With the exception of the lip, the exteriors look remarkably familiar...

Any clue on password to access the site?

I wouldn't say exact: the rim and underside *have* been modified, but they do appear coincidentally strikingly similar to a specific shell.
The site was interesting, the owner looks like he has some original things to contribute to the progression of the game... |

I'm curious to know where he's going with this design. If it's to simulate a "solid" shell as in sleightly's kicker 4th shell, it looks pretty fake to me. It's doubtful that the handling is anything we're used to with that inner ledge. I'd like to see the routine he developed for these.
Too bad he didn't just mold his own shells instead of borrowing from someone else's work.

I am not endorsing rip-offs I just recently got my first set of shells (street shells) and I am no conniseur but, in all honesty how much different can you make a fake walnut shell that is supposed to look like a walnut shell and still have it look like a walnut shell ? Can there be that much subtlety in "design" ?

There's a lot of aspects in a shell that you would look for. How it loads, kicks, grips and feels.
I've bought and sold a number of sets and keep coming back to my original La Maggiore shells. It's up to the individual which is best for them. |

Hello,
I thought I would clear some questions up on the new Bottom Ridge Shells. There was some concern on the exterior being the same as the La Maggiore shells. They are not the same, but being they are too close for concern, I have elected to change the exterior texture of the shell. The design was never intended to copy anyone. I just happen to like that type of exterior texture and maybe I made it to close to see the different. The size, shape and interior where completely different. I had not sold any of them so the timing was right to correct any concern. I had the website closed that is password protected to repost the new Bottom Ridge Shells with a new exterior texture. I did not have to do this, but after talking to Andrew Pinard from Absolutely Magic and seeing the post here on Magic Café, I decided that if there was any question at all I wanted it corrected. The change actually worked out be a better shell in appearance with more added handling features. These Bottom Ridge Shells where not designed overnight. I have worked over twenty years in testing the design and have become an expert mold maker with hundreds of molds to get to this point. I don't want a simple cosmetic texture appearance to put me in question as to copying someone’s work. I know how long it can take to put out a good product. As the cosmetic texture appearance is the easy part in the shell design. The picture posted showing the shells is a hand sculptured shell and in my thinking this makes it my own work. So now the new shell is made from a real walnut shell with the new shell texture from the inside and out. To design a shell that has the soft pea come out when moved in any direction is easy. To design a shell that retains the soft pea in the shell when move in all directions and able to steal the pea at your discretion is another story. The new design features makes this game now impossible to figure out. This even applies to other magicians and anyone else that knows how the old shell game works. This is because they will never know for sure when you steal or load a pea as you are not forced to do any actions till the timing is right for you. You now have full control of all your actions and the spectators can fully examine the soft pea with the shells. You have nothing to hide as everything works as it would be expected to work. It almost sounds too good to be true, but it is true. As for the question from Dave V on the posted picture of the shell with the walnut if it is a simulated “solid “ shell as in sleightly's kicker 4th shell. No, it is the Bottom Ridge Shell showing how the shells can now hold a hidden load like a real walnut halve and remain in the shell when held up off the surface when the shell in placed over the pea and when the shell is lifted “oh nuts their wrong,as the pea is gone”. I will post the opening of the new website soon and it will give you all the details on this new original design shell that has no clues and rules for the first time. The handling of these shells is a little different, but not hard. I think this handling works even better with the standard shells you are using now. The website will have handling instructional video’s to be viewed after purchase of shells. The new website will be http://www.3shells.com I hope this cleared up any questions on the Bottom Ridge Shells and will get back to you soon. If you have any other questions, please post them and I will reply. Thank you, 3shell-al .

I'm set for life with my SFS Colorado Silver Shells, but your post certainly elevates you far beyond most Café responses from "new" guys who have raised some eyebrows with a similar design to an existing product.
Good on you, and I look forward to hearing more about your shells, and your unique design. |

Welcome to the Café! From someone who knows the intricacies of creating something hand sculpted and moulded I recognise the amount of work that must have gone into re-moulding these. In all honesty the original ones looked like they were cast from the La Maggiore shells, however hats off to you for addressing this (and this post), it might be nice if you were to introduce yourself, so far all we know of you is "3shell-al"

Very clever design. It is revolutionary.
You should apply for a design patent. |

I'm looking forward to seeing the new model too. I still feel it's a solution to an imaginary problem, but I'm a traditionalist when it comes to shells. I don't try to make them into a "magic trick" so the final load concept is unimportant to me. But I reserve the right to change my mind once I see them in action.

Try hosting it on a public site like Picasa, Photobucket or Flickr and then share the link. That gets around just about all file limitations. If you don't want to open an account just for this pic, email it to me and I'll host it for you. Or... since you already have a website, just park it there and use that as your link.

The website is still asking for a password. Would that prevent the picture from being shared?
