Hi read about jay sankey's leaving home....
it says something like "Imagine yourself visually melting an ordinary key on and off a length of cord… Everything can be examined. " ... can it really be examined? is it good? is it easy to perform? how long will it take a beginner to learn ? thanks eric

I saw it performed on Sankey's Very best of Jay Sankey, and it is visually stunning.
1)The key is on the cord so it can be examined. 2)I would say it is very good. 3)It seems easy to perform, but you have to get the timing right. 4)That depends on how much you practice with it. Also, I read people were using this move when performing Troy Hooser's Charming Chinese Challenge, so it does have other uses as well.

Instead of buying the individual effect by Sankey, Buy Very Best of Sankey volume 3 dvd. That has Leaving Home and Paper-clipped! Two marketed effects put on one dvd. Save some money and buy the dvd.
A lot of Jay Sankey's marketed effects were either on a dvd before or will be put on a dvd. |

No gimmick, just the props you would need to buy.

This has one "move" that IMHO is not an easy move and will take lots and lots of pratice to make it work. so to answer your question I would say this is not easy to perform and it will take a beginner or anybody who does not do the "move" quite some time to aquire.

The move required to get the key back on the string is very "nacky".
It will take some work to get it right but it is well worth it. You can and will carry it around your neck everywhere you go. It is a very strong effect.

I have the effect on his DVD vol 2. Agree with all here, get the DVD. It has taken me a few days practice. I do like it but it is not gimmick related so it will take some timing and practice to master.

You should have all the props lying around the house. some keys and string. I use the strike vanish for a coin and pen vanish. He teaches that in sankey-tized vol 1. He also teaches the whole routine for leaving home in this volume.

The special move does take a little practice. Actually, quite a bit of it. But it's fun to practice -- becoming almost a challenge of sorts. And once this thing is perfected you can really pull off a miracle!

In Jay's hands it looks great. But when you try it for yourself you quickly realize it takes some time to get down. The move is hard to get down but if you are willing to put the time in its a killer routine.

Jay makes it a miracle. I've see others do it and it looks bad. Takes lOTS of practise, but is worth it!!

Good trick but takes lots of time to get it right. Jay makes it look easy but hes been doing it for years.

I believe the move that takes practice is related to the "Striking Vanish", used for vanishing a ball with a wand. Sankey himself makes reference to the move and its creator David Williamson. Williamson explains the move in his book "Williamson´s Wonders". Michael Ammar demonstrates the move in Volume 2 of "The Complete Cups and Balls".
It might be useful to have a look at this material if you will be doing "Leaving Home".
