Damian, I'm not saying this is you because you're not the proposer but... I've noticed over the years that those wanting to propose using magic and coming here asking for advice, typically have spent very few years studying the art. They are still wow'd by 'magic tricks' but don't realized that, when put in perspective, nobody else is. A very selfish, immature and ego-centric point of view.... typically.

I agree with Frank.
This moment is only for the couple. Unless he is willing to do the effect, I would talk him out of it. Magic is for us males, that is far and large for man-boys and only tolerated by women. They are slightly impressed but hate to be fooled. A third party (the magician) cannot implement this moment. You can perform for them afterwards, or perhaps lead up to it, but in general the magician is the seducer.

Guys,
I appreciate the feedback. And I can see where you're coming from on this; it makes sense. However, the truth is there's a million ways to skin a cat. Or it takes all kinds. Something like that. All I can say is, guy contacted me with this request. I didn't refuse him; it's his life and for me a terrific challenge. While you might have reservations (and as I said, they are totally sound), you never how it's going to play out. Here's an excerpt from his email, the next morning: "First let me complain, you are not the magician you claim to be, and are guilty of gross misrepresentation. Far more accurate would be a description of bloody genius. You had my "Teresa" entranced and spell bound by the end, and the final presentation of the diamond pendant had her close to tears after you had gone. For both of us, the evening will live long in our memories, and it absolutely made the first Valentines night that I have celebrated in over a decade." Obviously, the guy had no regrets. His girlfriend was eating it up. Anyway, you never know what the universe it going to bring you, and unless I'm 100% sure that it's a bad idea (and I'm talking about knowing from experience--like not taking a gig for 15 2-year olds, because I *know* it'll be a disaster) then I'm generally open to it. It's a rule that helps me keep an open mind. That said, I agree that performing at another's proposal is not something to be taken lightly, and refusing to take such a gig is completely understandable. |

You probably knew what you were doing. I'm not saying I'd refuse it every time but to take on such a thing would require that I felt it was really the right thing to do.
Glad it worked out so well. I like to hear success stories.
