I saw cardmagic great, Tony Cabral do this at an iHop one night.

It's available from: Gary Plants at http://www.thecardplant.com
Instructions and cards are included for fifteen dollars.
If you have a copy of Jim Swain's, Don't Blink, you can just look it up!

I bought that one years ago. Gary's cards are much better.

Love that trick, I need to dust off my set.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

MagicFish,

In the book Swain calls the trick Capitulating Cards. If you want to order the cards on Gary Plants' site, he calls it Capitulating Cards. The trick seems to get referred to as Capitulating Queens more often though. Plants calls the trick by that name, Swain uses that name . . . hence I use that name.

I too make mistakes though. If you listen at the end of the video, I do slip up.

If I was perfect, I'd have a real job.

In "Don't Blink" it's called The Capitulating Queens. It doesn't really matter. We knew what you were talking about.

I've been doing this for years and wish I was as smooth as you. That was wonderful!

The trick looks good, except when you put the card on the bottom, it's the third card that changes colour instead of the 4th one. Have you ever been caught on that?

Adam,

The discrepancy is overshadowed by the appearance of the odd-colored back, I promise.

Zombie, thank you. I'm sure you do the trick just fine.

French Drop, believe it or not I got that joke! I can never remember the darned titles, ever!

Randy, I really must pay more attention. Smile

I bought Capitulating Queens about three years ago, and it just had printed instructions. Apparently the current release of this by Meir Yedid Magic (which was announced here on 11 April 2020) includes an online video tutorial.

The product page says this:

"Comes with all the necessary cards, that were printed by the US Playing Card Co. on their Bicycle stock, and an online video tutorial. Use your own blue Bicycle deck."

Has anyone seen the online video tutorial or can comment on it? I should have waited with buying this by just two years. It's been languishing in my drawer, and video instructions sure would be helpful to get this onto the table.

I've now had the chance to see the video tutorial from Meir Yedid's Capitulating Queens myself. It's a streaming video that goes for a bit more than 17 minutes, and here's an overview of the key elements.

● 1 minute: Gary Plants explains the origin of Capitulating Queens, with full crediting, and mentions that Meir Yedid now has the rights for the trick.
● 2 minutes: Performance video of the effect, featuring Meir Yedid (I think), who also does the teaching in the rest of the tutorial.
● 6 minutes: An explanation of the gaff cards and the set-up, and teaches the basic packet trick
● 3 minutes: An explanation of how to do the trick when using an entire deck.
● 1 minute: An explanation of how Gary Plants gets into the routine and introduces the cards.
● 4 minutes: Teaches the Elmsley Count, including various tips to do it well.

The video quality is excellent, and the explanation is very clear. I'm glad that they've included a careful explanation of all aspects of the routine, including how to do it both as a packet trick or as part of an effect with the whole deck, and tips about how to get into the trick. The section on the Elmsley Count is also solid, and people unfamiliar with this should have no problems learning it from this part of the tutorial.

All round, a very good job with the tutorial video, and I highly recommend this new Meir Yedid release of Capitulating Queens!

Here's the performance video from the new release:

Excellent review as usual. 👍🏽 You are a real resource to the Café, as your reviews are honest and quite thorough. Thank you for them. 😊

I think I’ve said in this string somewhere that I absolutely love this trick. 😁 It was first given to me by a wonderful magician friend from Canada & old Café member. I did it for many years and people always enjoyed it (me too). I used to practice it regularly on the commuter bus to work in NYC every morning, and must’ve did it for everyone that ever sat next to me. 😁

It’s nice to see that Meir Yedid has put this back out and supports it with his fine brand of magic. I remember him & I communicating as to an old friend and true expert at the card table on another level here, “DOC,” but that’s another story.

All I can say is that Game here has laid it all out for you as to Capitulating Queens, it’s a wonderful packet trick. Nothing difficult and you’ll do it forever. 😊

*And so, as a group here…

📍 If you ever see a review by Ender’s Game, make sure you stop and give it a read, you’ll be glad you did.

📍 Support Meir Yedid Magic, as he always does things right. He is a real keeper of the realm.

📍And get Capitulating Queens, it’s a keeper! 😉

All HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
