Diversity makes B&M shops work.
Online Store Closeup Convention Magic Convention Magic Flea Markets & Auctions Internet Presence for these Events Blogs YouTube Newsletters and Facebook Advertising such as Google ads Promote community tourism If you have a history use it If you have publications make them downloadable Diversify inventory between products you make and wholesale products Freebies when customers order Success is a journey, not a destination, so I would never say that Abbott Magic has turned the corner. However Abbott Magic is pretty much debt free, no back taxes or huge expenses. Some of its big sellers this year were traditional like the Abbott Mutilated Parasol (which cost hundreds of dollars each) and instant downloads (a selection of over 100 at a whopping price of $4 per download). Abbotts is by no means perfect with a strong human element running through the store and its employees. Phones are still rotary with no voice mail, however the plant is a wifi hot spot and computers throughout the building are networked. Customers can watch a demonstrator perform a feat or watch another feat performed on a computer. Inventory is still through ledgers as is shipping. But there is no doubt Abbott Magic is evolving and its books are in the black. One of our goals was to compete on google with a certain combination of key words such as "Magic Convention" and "online magic store" A search of these words on google usually reveals Abbotts with a reasonable high listing. We knew we could not get all the words and we knew we could not get single words (such as magic) so we focused on a few combos. High ranking on google on these words leaves us capital to advertise other things on Google ads such as events and conventions. Abbotts also has a long history which we use to our advantage. Thousands of pictures are at magicgettogether.com including the listings of every performer who ever performed for Abbotts. Google picks up these words and it brings a whole new array of search terms that show up on google, the pictures show up on google image searches. This was not easy and took years to do, and I am always looking for pictures from the past to add to the site, that will never end. Do not think that this goes unnoticed by our competition. We monitor traffic as I am sure other magic shops do. In the past two years we have seen two other magic shops pay google to advertise under the key words "Abbott Magic" (type it in to google and see who shows up on top). We must be doing something right because we are a google pay term. We have a long way still to go and we can always get better, but the formula above is working for us. I admit having a history like Abbotts certainly helps, but I am sure other shops have their own strong points as well (walk in traffic in Colon MI is not what I would call backed up). Be creative, be positive, and make it work. Its not easy and will never end, just enjoy the journey. |
