Hello everyone! A new packet trick of mine was just released on lybrary.com It is a packet trick about emotions. I will give away 5 review copies to the first 5 people to pm me. Here is the description:Phase One:
The performer explains that what he is about to demonstrate is not merely a card trick, but an in-depth look of the world of emotions and what words or actions trigger certain emotional reactions. A packet of four blue-backed aces are shown. The performer places two face-up aces directly on top of two face- down aces. The performer says that if he were to tell the aces the size of their box was being reduced, they would all get angry and form a mob. The packet is spread and it is shown that the face-up aces are interlaced with the face down aces. The performer says that if he were to tell the aces that the size of their card box was being doubled, everything would be neutral again. Now all of the aces are shown to be all face up. Phase Two: The performer states that sometimes the cards are jealous of each other and wish they had the life of the others. The two black aces are placed face-down onto the table, leaving the two red aces in the hand. Instantly, the aces switch places so that in the hand, where there were once the red aces, are now the black aces and the red aces are on the table! Phase Three: The performer states that sometimes colors can be associated with emotions. Pointing out that the aces back's are blue the performer states that these aces can be feeling blue. Two of these blue aces are placed face-down onto the table. The performer mentions that cards can also be red with embarrassment, or green with envy. The two aces remaining in the hand are given a wave and the backs of the cards change from being the color blue to being the color red and green. Phase Four: The performer mentions that if people are having trouble with their emotions there is one person that they should see. The two blue-backed aces that are on the table are picked up and placed face-up into the hand. The two cards are waved and a face-down card appears between them. The performer turns over the card, revealing that it is a blank-faced card with a single word written on it: therapist! |

A review of Andrew Galanter's packet trick, Emoticon.
For Only 3 Dollars you get a 10 page PDF, with youtube links to the effect. wow! Emoticon starts off with an introduction as to what will be happening in this effect. Then you are provided with an "Official Description" of this 4 phased routine, with very basic patter. Andrew Explains, along with two pictures, a very easy set up needed to perform this routine, but you will need special cards to perform this effect as described. The Explanations: Andrew has written very detailed Explanations for his effect Emoticon. There are four phases in this routine, and each phase is broken down into steps. Not only is it broken down into steps and easy to follow, Andrew has provided you with three links to private youtube videos so you can watch this effect performed at speed. Andrew finishes this 10 page Ebook with his closing thoughts and with credits that are spot on. So What do I honestly think about this effect: It's a nice 4 phase routine that I have enjoyed working through. There are a lot of nice little technical moves that have been fun, but nothing too difficult. You are given three youtube links which I think is a nice add on, and helps greatly with the handling. I think every ebook should provide these. Will I use it? Probably not, Why? Because, it is a nice packet trick to show to someone when you have the right moment, but for a working magician I think there are a lot stronger packet tricks out there. That doesn't mean that this is not a strong trick, it is. I think in the right hands with the right patter and presentation, it could have real meaning to it. For 3 Dollars with youtube links, it's a steal. I have paid a lot more for worse. I guarantee you will enjoy working through this routine like I did. Get it now! What's 3 Dollars anyway? Kind Regards Myke |

Thank you very much! As for the effect being strong, that is what Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz is for

Andrew gave out five copies for review of his effect emoticon.
I was one of those reviewers but I'm wondering wether the other four reviewers just wanted a freebie, or are they going to write a review about this trick. I'm sure they must be busy and will post a review very soon. Andrew any word from the other four? Kind Regards Myke |

Well, maybe you should give them a week then name them so they don't do this in the future.
Regards Myke Ps, has this happened to anyone else? And if it has, how did you deal with it? |

I too was one of the lucky ones to receive a review copy.
I think that Myke's review really hit the nail on the head. The provided videos really help with the explanations. None of the moves are very difficult. There are a number very magical moments in the routine. However there is a lot of movement to get to the revelations and some of the initial displays to show that everything is fair do not show all of the cards. I also think that if the routine was trimmed down a bit and included just the phases that Andrew felt were strongest it would be improved as a routine. There is a lot going on, but sometimes less is more. This may help make it more commercial for the working magician. I am very glad I had the opportunity to see the workings of this routine. For the offering price I think it is a great deal. You will definitely find phases that will be useful and several of the methods are quite clever. Jim |

Will review this very soon, (tomorrow) but let me say for now that Andrew's thinking is always genious, and that this looks to be a cracker of an effect!
Modern, quirky, and a great packet effect! Review coming tomorrow, Kyle |

Your welcome!
The phases are very nice, and I like the theme of it. Although there is a little work that potentially needs to be done to clean it all up, 4 phases for $3 is a brilliant deal. A really nice little packet effect! Good job man! Kyle |

This is a great little packet trick, featuring some clever construction and a great finish. I think that the mechanics could use a bit more thought in some places, but otherwise no major complaints.
I did offer Andrew the suggestion of using court cards rather than aces, as it stands to reason that a therapist would feel more at home helping people, which could open the possibility for humerous patter, too. A fun little trick, and a total steal for $3; well done, Andrew! John |
