Hello everyone who likes cards! (All of you probably.) I first would like to say that I have just today successfully completed the cobra cut (it rocks!!) and the foot shuffle. YAY. Anyway, the point is I just can't do the cobra with bikes. I just don't work. The cards I used were a red-backed BUD-LIGHT card. YEAH!!! They're also one way backed, but each corner is different, so they make a pretty good fanning deck, and, they have lots of "Pores" or holes, (little tiny crevasses) in them so they hold powder really, really well. I'm wondering who else has had any experience with these. Also, I found out that these are just the smallest fraction skinnier and longer than bikes, but not by very much at all.

Sticky cards are good for cobras, and make it pretty easy to balance the packet on your finger.
I can't do it with newly opened bikes but after you have worn them in, I wouldn't say they were any different to any other cards as far as cobra cuts are concerned. Except bees, I can't for the life of me do cobra cuts with bees consistantly. When they get sticky they seem to just not want to do what you want them to do, or go where you want them to go, meaning the formation of the cut is hard to get to cleanly. Just my experiences there. |

This brings back memories of you telling me that you had better dexterity than I did. You just did your first cobra? LOL!
That was sooooo 3 years ago for me. But congratulations anyway. The sticky cards are okay for Cobras, but eventually you will want to challenge yourself and try one with a slippery deck. That's a whole different ball game. |

Congratulations on completing the Cobra Cut, Jordini!
That looks extremely difficult. Things that look easy are often difficult. Things that look difficult are usually almost impossible! How long did it take you to learn that practicing how much each day?
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

I'm sure it's just as difficult as you imagine, if not more so, but if you're seeing it done and think it looks difficult, you need to check out some of De'vo's cobra video's on Superhandz, because he makes it look like he can do it in his sleep.

Its also worth noting that this tip and indeed this cards are outlined on the card selection area of the Cobra DVD. Pointless post really, those who have it no the cards and the technique. Those who don't have the DVD don't deserve tips on either.

Try doing the King Cobra. De'vo isn't human. How he came up with that is beyond me? Congrats Jordini. It is an accomplishment.

Also bud light cards aren't really sticky, they're just the tinyest bit smaller across, so the thumb can get a better grip....come to think of it, my hands were probably a bit smaller back then too. I still REALLY don't know why this thread suddenly popped up out of nowhere, but I can assure you, I posted this WAAAAAAAAAayyyyyyyyyy back when I just started getting into flourishes. I can however assure ya'll, that I've come quite a long way since then. |

THE POINT IS.....I dunno. Bud Light cards are good anyway though, ya'll should pick up a pack. (Good for three card monte too). They also make an "ok" fanning deck.

I don't really think it matters a lot which deck you use, if I use a anglo, a bicycle, a tally ho, a piatnik, a öbergs or any kind of deck, its still just a deck of cards and 52 pieces of cardboard lying in a chunk.
I think presentation is what makes the cobra cut, not the cards. But off course, if you want a little challenge towards yourself, you can off course do it with uber slippery playing cards.

Well, it's important to remember that when performing a full XCM show, you can't just switch decks between every move. You can certainly switch a few times during the show, during brief rest periods, and I've even heard of an XCMer just doing several minutes of openers, just picking up decks and laying them aside when done with the opener, but the point is, cards that are good for only one type of move are beneficial, but it is best to have a deck that can handle all types of moves when performing magic or XCM.
