Just received my Thought Transmitter today was was very surprized as to how simple and easy this is to do.
I usually try my new effects on my 10 year old son who I might add is my biggest and toughest critic. He always suspects something and isn't afraid to tell dad what he thinks. When I "read his thoughts" and told him his choice he just stared at me and didn't answer at 1st. After awhile he told me the trick was "ok" and asked how I did it. I know an ok doesn't seem like much but it meant he was impressed and didn't have a clue as to what happened. Several times later that night he kept asking me what he was thinking so I know he likes it now, LOL. If you don't have this it may be something you may be interested in getting. Chris |

I have it, and don't like it very much. I have been busted twice because of the stupid light.

I have this trick also and I really like it.
I've never bin caught by the secret and it has fooled laymen every single time. Although the trick dosn't last forever, it is still a good trick for the time it's running. |

I see this as a pretty nonsense trick. I mean, write down a number, put it in the wallet, and I will know it. Why put it in the wallet? why not let the spectator hold it?

I have seen this used very effectively with other effects. For example one magician friend uses it with Deep Thought (I believe his idea is posted at the Deep Thought web site). That way the "magic word" is never mentioned but revealed at the end.

Chad Long had a great routine for the Thought Transmitter. He used it in conjunction with a magic square, and the effect was superb!
The Thought Transmitter is a very cool item if you can justify its presence. Sean |

I saw a magician do this for me several yeaars ago and I had no clue how it was done, he did the routine so well that it looked like he never touched the Thought Transmitter. Abstract: a good performer can make anything to a miracle.

I am about to purchase it but am having second thoughts because someone posted that it's a good effect but "Doesn't Last Forever"???
How long can it last approxiamately? And once it is used up is there any cheap way of fixing it so that it will work fine again (I don't want to buy another one at that cost)? Thanks, Apprentice |

I had one and used it for quite some time until my dog got ahold of it. Now it's got chew marks on it, but it still works.
As for the "doesn't last forever" comment: true, it won't last "forever" but it will last quite a long time. It's not a "wears out fast" thing at all. To tell you why it doesn't last forever would divulge part of the secret. Suffice it to say that you can definitely get your $40 worth. As for routine - I put a rubberband around the wallet after the person writes in it to "seal it from peeking" and in that motion, find out what they wrote. Just a thought.... |

I also use the Thought Transmitter in conjunction with the Magic Square. After writing down 16 numbers (in 4 rows and 4 columns) apparently I have failed to determine the 2 digit nuumber the spectator has written down.
I then reveal (one by one)that the 4 numbers in each individual row, each column, the diagonals, and the numbers in each of the 4 corners all add up to the chosen number. In fact, there are 24 combinations that add up to the selected number. I often use this as a closer because it's hard to follow with anything else. I am not familiar with the Chad Long routine, but it could be similar to this. Bill Beach |

I think TT is great but agree that it has to be done in conjunction with another trick. I use mine in situations where the outcome of the trick depends on the name of the card but where asking for the name of the card before the trick begins creates a little suspicion.
For example, I use mine with the invisible deck and with Cardtoon. It works especially well with both. And I have the spectator rubber band the TT before I touch it which makes it even better. Never been caught and think you would purposely have to screw up before someone would catch on. |

The whole point of the invisible deck is that any card can be named, I cannot see the benefit of using the TT with it - just clutters up an otherwise clean effect.
Prove me wrong? Bit off topic Regards Andrew |

Yes, any card can be named but doesn't it seem odd to you that you have to ask what the card is before you reveal the reversed card? To most, not a big deal, but to some, it makes a big difference. I use it mainly with Cardtoon but when I see I have a difficult crowd, I use it for invisible. It lets me reveal the card before I ask them what card they were thinking of.

Bill,
That is exactly what I saw Chad do. It was spectacular! Especially with Chads sense of humour... To be honest, this is quite possibly THE BEST utilization for the Thought Transmitter I have EVER seen, or even heard about. The newly dubbed Long/Beach (hehehe) effect is superb!!! Sean |

Some may think that the TT lacks in certain things, but what I like about it is that it's a simple looking wallet, you know, no moving parts, etc. NO ONE HAS EVER INSPECTED mine because it just looks so innocent.
I agree, it may not last forever, but nothing will if you think about it, decks last about 1 month max, depending on how much you use it. The TT lasts I think about 2 years or so, if you use it like, a few times in a week. I heard somewhere that someone in the forum knows how to 'renew' it by himself. I tried PM-ing him but he never responded. But, this is not a perfect device sadly, it doesn't work well in dark areas or after around 7pm, why? Telling you would be divulging too much, BUT, I will tell you this. I e-mailed John and asked him what he thought could remedy this and he gave me some great ideas. For example, you hand them a flash light, doesn't have to be a big one, just a small one and tell them to shine it on the TT, whilst you hold it so they can see that the wallet cannot be seen thru, and because there is a light shining on it, the 'peeking' will blend into the shining light. Frankly, I don't carry a flash light with me, what I do is I hold up to a light source, to prove that the wallet cannot be seen thru, and I did this at a snooker club, where it's almost pitch black and no one caught me. It's these little sublteties and you have to act convincing about it. I say, "I can't open it with that rubberband on, and I can't see thru it, can you?" and I hold it up to the light and 'peek' whilst they look carefully at the wallet with the light bulb behind it to see if they can see thru - and they can't. Because of the light shining behind it, the 'peeking' will go unnoticed. Then, when they are 100% sure about it and have no more assumptions (hey, you never know what they think, one guy accused me of having a zipper in my palm - it just goes to show...) I tell them to put it into their pocket, etc. SMOOTH presentation will literally sell this. I use it for many things, ID, normal mental reading, there are so many applications that it's almost stupid for you, as a magician, not to have it. I love it, it's one of my favourite secret weapons! Take care all and I hope you try to use the ideas I've put down, they should help! Peace, Logan
