I just booked a major music festival, and when I asked them about BOR they told me that they have a performers booth that sells performers CD's, posters, and t-shirts. I was wondering if I will actually sell anything, or possibly even strike it rich?

BOR any time any place is a good thing. if you are able to be out performing and have some one else run the table that would be best.
it also depends on what you sell. the key for events like this is not to have too many options. but rather have a few things and sell a bunch of them. I have done these events in the past and have made more in BOR then they paid me. have a good time at the festival. see you Monday night-- I plan to compete in the close up contest! sam

I'm glad I'm not competing this time, because you are very hard to beat. Break a leg

Thanks Al - I plan to do at least 2 new effects. I only have 8 minutes so I have been working on the routine here at home and in front of strangers when I am out. hoping I do well.
thanks

Al, I would think that having BOR right after your show at a table in the back would be more profitable than a seperate booth somewhere else away from your show. I'm not too well versed in BOR sales, but have done it in the past and BOR is an impulse purchase. You might want to find out where the booth will be located.

The festival that I'm booked at is Appel Farms music festival in June, which features Grammy award winning folk, and rock music acts from all over the world. It is a privilege, and a thrill for me to be invited to perform at this very large venue. That being said everybody must play according to the rules.
I do intend to pitch my BOR during my shows, but the festival will handle all the money.

I always have a BOR booth setup right to the side of the stage and always do BOR at festivals, with one exception when I was working with the comedian Gallagher, who had a fit about it.

Well in Gallagher's defense, those watermelons take up a lot of space and he doesn't want to carry all the unsold ones back to his car haha
In all seriousness, Al, that sounds like a sweet gig. I am in Vegas now and saw Mac King yesterday (excellent by the way) and he did such a great job with BOR. He gave away 2 items to volunteers, did a quick pitch which was funny (he said you can buy my book on Amazon for $10, or buy it right now in Las Vegas for $19). It really was refreshing to see BOR sold in such a great, unarming way. Best of luck with the great opportunity! Also, I won free tix to see David Copperfield for tonight, but judging by the reviews on yelp I'm glad I didn't buy them lol |

I never thought to give away some BOR items to volunteers. Nice idea.
