A "friend of a friend" (FOAF) is studying film. They are filming a studio variety show and asked me to perform and teach a trick (it doesn't have to be the same). Now, I don't like teaching the trick, but this would have potential marketing for me.
What is something interesting to teach that will not expose too much (such as the double lift, etc.). I own quite a few tricks including Mark Wilson's Cyclopedia of Magic (The abridged version of his main book). Any ideas on what I can teach? Thanks, Vernesto

If you have to expose something, consider the "What's Next" spot card. You will be exposing the effect but in the end you will have exposed nothing.

Why do you "have" to teach a trick? I'm with Stanyon on the Spot Cards.
Why not teach if you have to, bar tricks where they are more of a puzzle/science type of effect. There are plenty of resources for bar gag type effects. You mentioned that a double lift doesn't expose too much!!! Really?? Ask any card guy. I don't like exposure of any kind.
Guilt will betray you before technique betrays you!

I think you misunderstood me. I meant I do NOT want ot expose the Double Lift, because that would be exposing too much.
This is his project for film school and I am invited to be on the show. I cannot make him change his project for me. Right now the key card seems the way to go, but I am open to more ideas.

A keycard? That is one of the best methods in card effect! I wouldn't expose that.

Then I am confused. What is meant by the "What's Next" spot card? is it not the same as the key card?

Look up "What's Next" and you'll see it's the domino card also known as Dubious Domino or Hoppin' Spots depending on who is selling it. It's where you tell them you are going to teach them how a magician seemingly makes spots appear on the sides of the domino by stategically placing your hand over the spots to create the illusion of having a certain number of spots. Only in the end it is revealed that there is a whole bunch of spots on the card. It's fun and pretty simple to do. It serves as a great opener or warm-up. You can even make your own using construction paper.

Thanks lash!
Good idea bowers. I'll look through my book. And satellite23, I sent you a PM. As I said, I don't want to reveal anything too "secrety". Just something that looks cool, but doesn't reveal much.
