Any of you fine people Prepping. Bugout bags, food water storage etc?? Weapons?? Also what event you think will happen that would bring us into SHTF. Mike |

I don't buy into the 2012 mumbo-jumbo, but I have my gear ready at all times. Have done for years. That's just how I roll.

Downtown Spokane after 6pm sure LOOKS like the world has ended. Reminds me of I Am Legend.
Not really buying all of the doomsday stuff. I think some people watch too many movies.

I am a prepper. But its not fir some potential doomsday.
I like to stay practiced in the skills my ancestors have used for millenia- Shelter building, fire building, edible wild plants, water purification and survival hunting and trapping. All very useful skills, doomsday or not. Every year I read a story about a couple whos car broke down in the wilderness and despite their arsenal of smartphones, gps and onstar, they often perish within a short while. They panic, they freeze, they get hypothermia, they dehydrate, they get lost, they die. Everyone should have survival skills. Nothing to do with doomsday. |

If anyone wants to sign all their stuff over to me, I'll make sure it's well-taken-care-of after December 2012.

My plan is to perish in the first wave as I really wouldn't want to live in a post apocalyptic world. I'd rather die quietly in my sleep like my grandfather rather than screaming in terror like his passengers. I'll leave the survivalist survival fantasies to the younger generation.

Shouldn't magicians do pretty well in a post apocalyptic world? The shamans of the new age? Either that or burned at the stake I guess.

I dunno Payne, parts of Sodo look pretty post-apocalyptic to me already....

I really do want to live in a post-apocalyptic world. Especially if it's zombies.

Zombies aren't nearly as fun as they seem in the movies. Nothing ever is.

But if you want to talk about post-apocalyptic wastelands, how about that Goodwill surplus place you guys have over there? With all the bins and smelly people? If you can handle 20 minutes there then I'd say you're ready for anything.

It has been almost 20 years since the Los Angeles riots. I remember living in L.A. at the time and being quite scared of the happenings. Nothin happened to my house. But I could hear gunfire from not too far away and I could see and smell the fires burning. The electricity stayed on, any my wife and I had nearly full tanks of gas just in case. Phones were out for a day or two. Stores were closed, gas stations were closed, some freeways were closed. More or less same situation in 1993 Earthquake aftermath. In either case I had food, water, health + 1st aid supplies, battery opperated radio, extra batteries, some cash, and a plan to get to family in Arizona etc. In both cases I did not need any of it, but if I need it tomorrow I am glad it is there. I think the 2012 end of world nonsense is cr(a)p, but other problmes do happen.

The Mayan calendar 2012 isn't badly predicted, it's just probably not that accurate; they were magicians and soothsayers too, just like the Oracle at Delphi. It's all about natural calamities, which occur rather frequently over the millenia. The Tunguska Event in Russia circa 1910; the disappearance of the Minoans in Crete several thousands of years ago (attributed to volcanic activity creating a tsunami type of catastrophe), the vanishing of the Maya, and other civilizations, and the dinosaurs simply going extinct, all point to natural "universal" disasters.
That said, I don't believe the Maya predicted a special event, but rather just a natural event, which WILL occur sooner or later. They could be off by a few hundred or thousands of years. But they're right. Sooner or later Planet Earth is toast. So in consideration of that, and assuming the "2012" disaster won't be a planetary collision which would simply blow us all into smithereens, let's consider the black hole, massive tsunami, nuclear holocaust, or whatever modern approach you can conjure up. In all liklihood, humans will survive such a non earth shattering catastrophe but will suffer great distress in loss of infrastructure, communications, transportation, and all the conveniences of the modern world. So. While food, water and shelter are necessary for survival, and the most intelligent of us will have a cache of these things, one of the most essential items in your inventory to support your cache is a gun, preferably several of them...and plenty of ammunition to go with them. I know, that will PO the anti gun folks, but let's face it, when it comes to you or me, and your wanting what I've got for survival and you try to take it from me, and you don't have a gun, you lose. Period. In times like this, forget sharing the wealth; it ain't gonna happen. If you think it will, then enjoy your folly. It's called survival of the fittest.....and better prepared. If you have a gun (preferably guns), then you have a fighting chance against your aggressors from stealing your stuff. But without a gun or two, once again, you're toast....see you in the next universe! As for me, I'll take all bets from folks who think December ? 1012 is our last day. I'll pay 100 to 1; bet must be placed by 11/30/2012. Just send me your money. I promise to pay if I lose.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |
