I want this to be practical stuff that anyone can do with a minimum of training and under stress. For example, instead of advanced artistic flint-knapping, we would throw a small rock at a bigger rock just to create a servicable cutting edge. The next lesson would be making cordage from natural materials. Basic principles that people can expand upon. The idea came from a running joke amongst my co-workers when I worked for the climbing store. There'd be a new guy who'd say "I can survive with nothing but a knife." Then me or my best friend would say: "We just make a knife when we get there." Then these Discovery channel shows came out and they just happened to have the right equipment, or it would be "found" on the way, and I thought, "That's great, but what if someone forgets their chocolate bar and bicycle spoke?" It'll get done eventually, just not sure when.

Hey, I'm all for keeping a few week's supply of food on hand. And guns are great for adding to one's food supply. I just don't buy into the idea that they will do much to save you in the doomsday situation I described (which seems to be the situation many Doomsday Preppers are concerned about).

Relatively small, disorganized groups of looters, IMO, are a much more likely threat to a random private citizen than being taken out by a private army serving the super rich.

Or a certain area being isolated where suppiles wouldn't be able to get in for an extended period of time. I think a lot of our infrastructure is sketchier than we'd like to believe. Something that disrupts our water supply, or a large scale power grid failure, doesn't seem that far fetched to me. Or a massive earthquake bigger than we've ever seen before. If I were a prepper, which I'm not, that's what I'd focus on. Not so much zombies, or the poles flipping. I don't think those people that live in remote compounds really have to arm themselves against an invading horde. But I could see things getting real ugly, real fast, in densely crowded urban areas if all the power and water were to go, and there was no food to be had anywhere. Even for a few days. A certain amount of panic would be bound to set in. This prepping and survival thing seem to be very hot these days for some reason. And if I were a prepper stockpiling food, water and weapons, I certainly wouldn't go around telling everyone about it. |

I think this threads existence is the signs of the apocalyptic period the world is currently going through lol
Seriously, the responses on this thread is summarized well by the disdain and sheer tragedy outlined by mastermindreaders post saying he doesn't want to live in this world. To think that when (theoretically speaking) a massive asteroid hits the earth and wipes out 99.9% of the population, that the remaining individuals would simply go around and steal from each other or kill each other is a stain on the immaturity of the human heart. Seriously guys, go out and educate yourselves on what it is to be a valuable member of society, contributive, constructive, transformative, an educator and activist for the necessary qualities needed for the survival of the human race, not the destruction of it. I can categorically assure you that there will be no physical Apocalypse in our lifetime, nor in our children's lifetimes, but if you really astutely look at this thread you would realize that the True Apocalypse mentioned in all the Books that you've read to define the term, actually refers to *now* and the evident decline of the human heart Myself and mastermindreader will now go about removing ourselves from this world and go about creating a New World Order LOL ( because the current is decaying rapidly) Kam

There's a *** lot of work to be done in the world, the level of spiritual education (and by that I mean having respect for other peoples property, for example, showing courtesy, empathy, love) is at an all time Apocalyptic level....the moral decay is declining on a daily basis, and don't for a second think that the looting issue can be solved politically. So, what are we, as individuals and collectively doing to sustainably transform people's hearts into spiritually well educated individuals? Kam

I only follow Dr. Z's work and comment on his Twitter from time to time. His University did attempt to recruit me though, and I gave it some serious consideration. Not ready to leave the state yet.

Do people here think the Doomsday prepper thing is mostly a U.S. thing, or is it big elsewhere also? Is this a question that the National Geographic series is looking at?

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

So, firstly, with your bet at the bottom, are you betting that an "event" will happen this year, or not?
