On the rnt2 page the cup is shown without the dark coating on the inside, is that a special feature no longer available?

Jamie shows off the interior in his video. You can blacken the interior of any COPPER cup by filling it to the brim with a Liver of Sulfer solution, but be very cautious not to get the solution on the exterior of the cup as it will instantly blacken any copper it touches. You can mask off the mouth with a high quality masking tape to aid you with this. Or, if you have access to a high speed buffing machine, you can polish off any blackening on the exterior of the cup. Alternately, you could paint the interior of ANY metal cup (like aluminum) with ENAMEL. Masking is required for this. Painting the inside of cups is tricky to get right - apply spray paint in several VERY LIGHT coats to prevent runs and pools in the interior, or you could brush paint the interior with light coats and a small brush. As long as the surface of the metal is clean and free of grease, the enamel will bond to the metal really well. |

Thank you for this information.
Now I will wait until A: My budget allows it and B: Paul Fox Mini Chop Cup to be available again. Why is there no satin finish Version of the Paul Fox Mini Chop Cup? |

Fun fact I just discovered tonight. Donnie makes a 1-5/8 final load for the Don Alan Mini.... BUT.... you can actually use one of his 1-7/8 balls. That ball protrudes at the bottom a bit and the cup will rock if set on a table... BUT... if you're performing on your hand, the extra is covered in the natural curve of your palm. I've been playing with it for a few hours, and the 1/4 inch difference still makes me giggle. The ball can get slightly jammed, so stay with a crocheted covering or some other material that won't bind inside the cup. If you have to shake the ball out a bit, it's even more amazing. Sparkle yarns are a wee bit thicker than straight yarns, it seems, but they work well too.

For those of you that find you can only do a full size ch*p cup routine with a jacket, I suggest getting yourself a Hip Pouch from Ambitious Card.
http://www.theambitiouscard.com/aitem.cfm?itemid=56 I use this for a lot of my strolling gigs when I'm keeping props to a minimum but still want max impact with a full size ch*p cup routine. It's a great bag. I have one of the early models that was designed for either left or right leg. I'm sure this one, re-designed for either side, works just as well.

Roughly, what are the dimensions of that pouch EvilDan. Also, how does it attach? Is it looped at the top to run your belt through it? Would you say this is for indoor use or it is durable enough for the street? Thanks.

I don't have the dimensions of the pouch, nor the current one they offer. If you contact Frank Starsini, I'm sure he can provide you with that.
But let me tell you this. I have used this for 3 or 4 seasons now, mainly for street and festival work and the thing looks like brand new. I use a Don Alan Ch*p Cup and the bag holds everything nicely. I have the two loads at the bottom of the bag stacked so that one ball rides higher and to the back of the very bottom one. The extra ball goes in front of that. And then I place the cup on top of all of that and I'm ready to perform. It affords me excellent prop management and it looks good too. In my routine I tell them that they have to guess whether the ball is under the cup or "in the bag." No one has ever questioned the bag. No one has ever assumed that the finals came from the bag. It's basically a non-prop. Like a wallet.

Thanks for that essential info about the use of the pouch, EvilDan.
I checked the website and saw their offerings. Was great to hear about how well it withstands long term use outdoors. Thanks again! |

That Magic Friday video and a live demo from UK magician Michael McIntyre were the incentive I needed to try Chop cup . It is now my go to closer.
Santa didn't get my hint about a Dennis Loomis Micro chop cup to replace my standard size Bazar de Magia so it looks like I am going shopping as soon as Donnie is open in the new year |
