I love Brian Caswell's thinking and effects, Catalysm & Trilogy are amazing.
But I'm afraid that this one doesn't quite do it for me. I was one of the people who bought it when it came out on a limited release and I'm sure for some people, in the right situation, this will play great. However, I prefer the look of Brians other new release "Inevitable". http://www.alakazam.co.uk/product-Inevit......ell.html |

It's unfortunate for Brian that always use Cataclysm as the benchmark and its a pretty *** high benchmark!
I'll take a look at this if I manage to get over to Blackpool on the weekend.
We are inclined to believe those whom we do not know because they have not yet deceived us...

I got this before Cataclysm it is a good effect that uses a very old Principal
I used to use this a lot, but as posted Cataclysm is Brian's top effect, That is unless his new effect takes over this Benchmark only time will tell |

I bought this from Alakazam. Have performed this to friends and at parties etc and it goes down very well and is very easy to perform.

The first Brian Caswell effect I have bought and I can honestly say that love this effect.
Amazing reactions on performing it. It has a wonderful slightly spooky feel to it with the storyline. I used the suggestion on the DVD for a slightly alternative presentation regarding the lead in to the effect climax (with the message in the envelope) which I think works very well. Will be looking to purchase Cataclysm and Inevitable next if this effect is anything to go by. |

Hi Mike, I, like you, love the story of this trick and find it really connects...I think the message prior to the reveal adds to the overall effect and eliminates any after thought that you had 5 chances of being correct....I like to go along the lines that in our dreams/nightmares we often find that as soon as we wake up things start to dissolve away from our memories...I then explain that the only thing I remember from my strange dream is writing a message on the 5th. card.....really spooky for spec. if you convincingly relate the story to them....A perfect example this one of how a story well told can enhance an effect so much..........love this one too....Gerry

Hi Gerry,
that's a great idea regarding the patter surrounding the dream connection. As you say adds to the somewhat spooky nature of the effect. By the way I am also now performing Inevitable also by Brian Caswell, which is also a superb effect, getting great reactions from this also. This combines a 3 way prediction with ESP card matching, inside a blank deck. The deck and ESP cards are fully examinable both before and after the effect and the ESP element lends itself to a very strong mentalism feel. If you like spooky effects I can also strongly recommend ouija card which appears on the Mark Bendell Unknown DVD (A superb DVD with lots of real workers). In this effect the letters on a ouija board (printed on a blank banked playing card) morph to spell out the spectators selected playing card and then there is a second kicker where the signed selection appears on the back of the ouija card in the spectators hands. |

Thank you Mike for your suggestions...I am familiar with the effect 'Inevitable' but don't own it....Ouija card looks interesting, so will have to check it out.

Not sure anout this one, don't have it but have seen it a couple of times, cant put my finger on it but it just seems to be missing something, cataclysm is one of my fave routines though, brilliant.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

I love it and use a storyline utilising the plot of the movie 'Inception' ......you create a dream world and take somebody into it.....and then 'prove' that you were there with the fifth card message. Works for me......
Have you tried 'Up The Ante' yet?? The ultimate gambling demo....a self-working wonder! See the reviews here on the cafe.

I am still performing this and I still get great reactions. Its the effect that past spectators always ask about. A brilliant piece of Mentalism with the additional storyline.

Have to agree. I converted mine to Phoenix cards which has made the effect even better!

That is a cool idea with the Phoenix Cards and makes the effect more of a magician fooler.

Can anyone explain the routine, the video shows six cards on a table, and the fifth card being the chosen one. But how did they get there, whats the routine like. How does it play. NOT fishing for the method, I just want to understand the routine from the spectators point of view.

Thx, yeah see now that Penguin actually has the explanation
"ou request that your spectator relaxes and enters into a short visualization experiment. When she feels comfortable, you ask her to close her eyes and imagine she is walking down a long corridor. There's a door at the end of the corridor. She reaches it, opens the door and enters a plain looking room. It is sparsely furnished. The walls are a pale colour. There are no windows. Ahead of her, stuck to the wall, is a long row of playing cards. She sits down on an austere wooden chair. You tell her to open her eyes and look at you. You stand holding the deck of cards. You ask her to call out the row of cards to you, exactly as she sees them in her mind. You remove the cards one by one from the deck, laying them in a face up row on the table, to recreate the picture she is seeing inside her head. She calls, let's say - two of spades, jack of diamonds, three of clubs, four of diamonds, nine of clubs, seven of hearts.....After six or seven cards you stop. Eerily, it is precisely as you had pictured it!!! But that's preposterous. How could you possibly know? Because, you explain - you've been inside that room in her mind ahead of her.You begin to turn the cards face down. This was the first card she saw, this was the second card she saw ......You continue turning down the cards. You skip the fifth card and turn the sixth face down. Then you return to the fifth. Naturally enough, you also knew that no one would believe you. And that is why you left a little message. You turn over the fifth card, and on the back is written - THE FIFTH CARD WILL BE THIS ONE - THE NINE OF CLUBS!!" However, I don't see it getting rave reviews. Jan |
