I think it can false shuffle to retain previous deck order... or at least that's what I interpreted it to be...

Tommy,
If so, it wouldn't be the first time a shuffling machine that didn't do anything at all was put into play. Jason

We have not heard of a private game using a shuffle machine nor does any of our local casino's use them yet. We think the private use of them would be rather odd to our players at the moment. If they started using them at local casino's then perhaps we would feel more at ease getting one. For cheating though we would not use one at my place anyway but its not difficult for us to set up games at other places, at places where the local casino's use them perhaps but still they are just strange things to us. A private baccarat game or something like that maybe?

I cannot bring up the link above for the shuffle machines at this time even though I previously looked at it briefly. Maybe the site is down temporarily. But just a quick note here, the fact that “cheating” is mentioned in conjunction with the machines does not necessarily mean they are designed to cheat on the shuffle. Sometimes poor translation can use a word incorrectly and as I recall the English used on the site was not very good.
“Cheating” may refer to not having someone shuffle the cards manually – that is to say, they are “cheating” because they don’t have to shuffle. If the site sells to casinos, then it would be extremely unlikely they also manufacture or sell shuffle machines that “cheat” on the shuffle itself. It certainly is possible to modify a machine for cheating purposes, but to see an actual modified machine in this instance does not seem likely. Shuffle machines are used extensively in Las Vegas, not only on poker games but in Blackjack, mini Baccarat, 3 Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em and so on. Shuffle machines reduce cheating on the shuffle almost to zero and speed up the game considerably. While they may not be used in tommy’s area yet, I would think it is just a matter of time before they are introduced (assuming it is a heavy action poker area), as it appears they are a necessity in all but the smallest gaming establishments. Vegas and Atlantic city seem in some respects to be the “proving” grounds for advances in gaming and when the advantages of a particular piece of equipment or procedure is “proven” there, it is just a matter of time before these changes are used in other countries and areas of the world. |

They use machines in the card room at Hard Rock Café in Hollywood Florida.
While one deck is in play, the other is being shuffled. Jerry |

The machine, in addition to shuffling the deck also counts the cards. If less than 52 cards are present in the deck being shuffled, a red light goes on showing the deck is short. At the completion of the hand, the dealer pushes a button on the machine, the door opens up, the newly shuffled deck is raised up, the dealer places the "old" deck into one compartment of the machine and the other, newly shuffled deck is brought to the table, cut on to the cut card and dealt. When the newly shuffled deck is remove from the machine, the door closes to enable the machine to shuffle the "old" deck just inserted. I would guess that most of the large card rooms in the U.S. use shuffle machines. The top of the machine sits flush with the table top with the remainder of the machine being below the top of the table. Their use is far superior to dealer hand shuffling of the cards. In fact, I would also say that in smaller joints that deal low stake poker games and only have a few tables, the new PokerPro tables, which eliminate the dealer entirely, are the most efficient and economically feasible way to deal the game in that situation. |

Not exactly the Ali Shuffle is it? More like Brian London circa 1966. Actually Brian was a wonderful guy it was just that Ali was so fast that he made them all look slow.
We have no % rake here but an hourly fee and so we would get no extra dough for the extra hands anyway. The dealers might earn more by extra tips and players would get more hands for their fiver if they could get more hands with the contraption I guess. I would not spend six grand on one and would rather buy six new casino tables. Maybe the place to buy this stuff cheap is Russia, since they closed down the casino's there. I have heard there are many private underground poker games there now by the way.

You guys may want to take a look at the Shuffle Master machines for BJ and Poker. This is the direction the poker and casino game industry has taken. I think it is a matter of time before everyone will use these machines or something very similar. Their use starts out in the bigger and more important gaming areas and then spreads out to the smaller areas around the world.

Anyone gonna be dealing the world series this year? Just wondering. I think I'm gonna deal it this time, I've always wanted to. I don't think they use shuffle machines during the series.

Whats sad about this where I work is only about 10 % of the poker dealers can "properly" wash, shuffle and cut by hand as they were trained to use the shuffle master from the start...
