I have some video I'd like to put on my website. I'm only wanting to put a minute or less video up.

I have an Apple and Iweb as well as Imovie and Idvd to work with.

Is there a specific format to work in that will work better for my website.

So far my partner has only been making DVDs and I'm not sure if it's all the same.
My partner will be doing the work but neither of us has done this before.

I'm not really sure if I'm asking the right question.

Youtube would be the best option.

Youtube is the easiest option. You can make it a private video if you want to restrict the viewing of it. Or just put a link on it on your webpage.

I have also mailed postcards with the link on it to clients. Mail still works to keep interest.

I've noticed some video is jerky and pixilated and some is more clear and less jerky.

I use a Wondershare converter to work on my Mac to convert the videos for Youtube and other formats. I think the for sale version is about $30. There is a free version that leaves their logo on the video if you don't mind that.

You can embed the video on your web site so that the viewer shows up there. YouTube gives you the code to embed it.

I did notice yesterday that an embedded video posted on another forum did not show up on Apple's mobile devices (iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone.) I don't know if it's that way with all embedded YouTube videos or it was something to do with that particular forum.

Mary - if you have an Apple store near you, they may be of great help for free. They offer classes for a cost, but you can generally get someone in the store who will know how to help and be excited to assist you if you go when they are not busy. A larger library may also be a source for fast and free help.

YouTube likes getting videos in the H.264 format. So does Vimeo.

The million dollar question is what format is the video you're starting with? Is it still on the camera? Do you have an existing video file somewhere?

My general suggestion would be to import your video into iMovie (assuming it's in a format that iMovie accepts), make your edits, then upload to YouTube from there. I believe iMovie has an option that will automatically take care of the video conversion and upload to YouTube automatically. (Make sure you've signed up for a YouTube account before doing this).

To post the video on your website, click the "share" button below the video once it's uploaded. Then click "Embed". This will give you a code that you copy and paste into your website.

Hope that's at least somewhat helpful... Tell me where your starting from in terms of your video footage and we'll work forward from there.

I downloaded it into IMovie and Tom (My Sig. Other) is editing now.
