Ok, I have no idea what this would be called, nor did I find a video of it online (but I didn't look too hard...). A long time ago, Copperfield did a duck routine with a kid on stage, and 2 small boxes, the boxes sat atop a draped open frame (you can't see into the frame due to the drape). Webster "walked" between the boxes unbeknownst to the kid on stage. Eventually it became evident that there is a stage hand under the drape.
Both Webster and the stage hand eventually end up disappearing, as the drape is whisked away. So, whats the background on this illusion? Is this set up something I could build or buy? (although if you say its in some book, and I can have it built, I don't know if doing the routine is worth it... a lot of the comedy comes from the fact that its a duck going from box to box....) thanks, sb |

Found a video in about 20 seconds so I quess you really didn't look hard at all ;-):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrIChdij2Vw This was build exclusively for David Copperfield by Mendoza - it is not available to build or buy! |

David Copperfield called this routine "Run Duck Run". It was part of his 10th TV special "The Magic of David Copperfield - The Bermudaz Triangle", his worst TC special or a big marketing error, as he calls it himself.
As tristan told you, this illusion was build by David Mendoza from Magicraft. His company name changed and is now called "Show FX", if I'm right. Oliver. |

This is just an assumption on my part, but it always seemed to me that Copperfield's Run Duck Run was inspired by Paul Daniels and his Rabbit from the Hat trick illusion. Again, it's not an exact copy, but it does appear as if Daniels and his illusion was the inspiration for David's illusion. I do know that Paul performed his trick well before David presented his illusion.

Not to nitpick, but this routine first appeared on The Magic of David Copperfield VII, guest host Angie Dickinson.

You're right David he presented it for the first time on TV in his 7th special. Sorry for my misinformation.

I also think some of these bits of business were used (if not originated by) the late comic actor Dom Deluise - he did a bit as a magician magically making Dean Martin go from box to box on a couple of TV specials in the 70's, 80's? I am sure there must be somnething on You Tube.
