I never heard of him, but the demo looks interesting
http://www.theory11.com/tricks/detach-rick-lax.php It says no gimmicks and you start and end clean. |

Rick put out Vertigo using a card box and cards to defy gravity. I liked it- gets good reactions. This looks interesting.

It looks good. But I don't believe it's without a "gimmick", otherwise it would be real magic.
And I doubt you end up clean... But maybe I´m just wrong(hopefully;)). |

EDIT
Woops, on a second viewing this looks a lot more deceptive! I still have an idea on how it is done, and if it is correct then yes there will be no gimmicks and you will end clean, start clean, and it will just use on balloon. I may be totally wrong though, anyhow it looks cool! Kyle |

Hey guys,
Lyle here from theory11. Just dropping a quick line about our recent release of Detach by Rick Lax. Rick is one of the most clever minds I have seen in the magic scene in recent history. Detach shows exactly why I feel this way. Detach uses one balloon and your hands. Nothing more, nothing less. It is super practical, very simple, and painfully deceptive. No gimmicks, duplicate balloons, or even a special brand of balloon. You could without any issue walk into a party, grab a balloon off of the table, and blow people away. Is it for every situation? Of course not, but it will work for most. Rick goes into tips that you can switch between depending on your crowd situation. As always, if you have any further questions, feel free to shoot me a PM and I will help you out. Enjoy it! L |

Didn't Andrew Maybe publish something very similar some years back? Or someone else at least cos I have seen the effect before.

If you like this, check out David Harkey's "Dirty Pool" from his 1991 book, Simply Harkey. A black balloon is inflated to about the size of a billiard ball. The nozzle is then plucked off, yet the balloon, held at the fingertips, remains inflated. A beat, and then you release the balloon and it drops like a rock to the table with a resounding 'thud!', having instantly transformed into a solid 8-Ball.
It's all in the reflexes.

I can already tell after watching this it will be a worker. You will want to do a few other things first then move into this and then use a closer. I think with the right time misdirection you can blow some minds.
Very Nice, -Altrez |

Ive seen Rick do this a dozens of times here in town and I must say its pretty darn awesome! Its super simple to perform, only one balloon, you start clean and end clean and its a very simple and direct effect!

I bought it and it is well worth the money.
As soon as I worked hard enough on it to make it look smooth I will post a review... |

While there are some angle restrictions, they aren't bad at all. It will require a little practice but nothing too difficult. If you like what you see in the demo, you won't be disappointed. |
