Hello, I would love to hear what you guys choose to perform if you're ever asked to perform "on the spot" while at a dinner with people you might know or even not.

Powerball 60 is a great impromptu trick. But only once for the same crowd.
Also, a simple coin penetration through a handkerchief for a nice quick coin trick. I also carry a small paddle trick marketed by Keith Fields, Magic Spots. The Princess Card trick is also easy and only takes the space of five playing cards in your wallet. Generally speaking packet card tricks are easy to carry and perform with spontaneously. Have fun!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Jay Marshall published a fabulous book on ALL sorts of things one can do at the dinner table: "Table Crap." It is worth looking for a copy. Magic Inc. may still sell it.

"Table Crap" is excellent - a must have among others if you are interested in restaurant/table magic. There is another book that I think is called "Magic At the Dinner Table" and I cannot remember the name of the author - just that it has some great material in it.
You can do the old Salt Shaker Thru Table. Using crumpled up dollar bills: 2 In the Hand/1 In the Pocket, Bills Through Table, a Benson Bowl routine with a coffee/tea cup and with a spoon for a wand; if you secretly roll a quarter or some change into the bills before any of the above effects, you can carefully open the bills at the end to show them empty, roll them into a tube around your finger and produce the coins from the bill a la Cornucopia by Roger Klause, you can do the old bouncing dinner roll gag or do a Coin in Dinner Roll. If you are practiced enough, there are a few Coin to Sugar Packets out there that can be set up in front of the audience and any Coin to Sugar Packet makes for a great effect. The David Roth version of Free and Unlimited Coinage of Silver, as well as his Hanging Coins, are perfect for this. Those are just a few things off the top of my head - I hope the information is useful to you. |

Salt shaker thru the table is always great. I also do a prediction effect with the packets of sugar on the table by using about 8-9 of them and writing numbers on them. Bending fork or spoon..

Derren Browns Invisible Deal can be done without a deck of cards. One of the strongest mindreading effects I know. It is on his dvd: "the devils picture book"

My answers comes from twenty minutes ago. I just got home from my friend's 31st B'Day party. After the burgers and the cake I ended up in the living room with six adults and one 12 year old.
- Magic Purse and Sponge Balls Twelve year old loved them, "Can you do any card tricks?" Me - "Lucky for us I just happen to have some cards" - Pop Haydn's Chicago Surprise Twelve year old. Her eyes so wide it was funny, "That was freaky!" - Invisible deck (that was a major "Wow!!!") - World's Greatest Card Trick - Aaron Fisher's Card elimination - a couple of classic forces - simple TT with silk and ended with Penguin Three Card Monte Twelve year old. Again, her eyes really really really wide open, "That was sooooo freaky!" OK - I had: two decks three card Monte TT and small silk Purse and sponge balls. Very easy to carry in just a sports jacket's pockets. This stuff is fun. I need to get some paying gigs and start making some money - there are so many props and illusions I REALLY NEED!!!! |

In my wallet I carry rubber bands so CMH or jumper. I also carry power ball 60 and a small paddle trick.
But really using things - a knife can be used as a paddle. And I also do a chop cup with a coffee cup rolled up paper napkins.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

David Roth has a wonderful sequence of coins through the table. Firstly he puts the coins through the table with his hands, then he covers them with a glass and finally he cover the glass with a handkerchief and puts the coin and the glass through the table!!

"Look, they have these salt shakers that vanish."
I pick up the salt shaker and toss it into the air and - and - it's gone. I look confused and start looking in my pockets and find it and put it back on the table. "I wish I knew where they get these." |

Powerball 60 is easy to carry and with so many states with lottery, it is easy to work into the situation.
