Last night a couple of clowns/good friends and I went to see the show. They knew most everyone under the big top so it was great to meet them all BUT my favorite was when I finally met Todd Robbins. All these years of admiring the man and his work I finally got to shake his hand. He's tall! I'm 6'2" so I don't say that often.
Great show and Todd did a fantastic job. Torres appropriately pointed out he sounds like Garrison Keillor. All great story tellers have that similar quality. It's almost a sing song but it's so pleasant to hear. The Equestrian act was one of my favorites and I can honestly say I have never said that about an Equestrian act. It was stunning. AND the hand stand act. WOW. I have seen many acts like it but none were similar. He didn't style until nearly four minutes into the act! His opener....speechless. If you get a chance go see it. They always put on such a great show and it was an giant pleasure to meet Todd and he introduced me to Ward Hall. I have seen Mr. Hall at work many times but never shook his hand. Such an honor. Thank you Todd Robbins, the consummate diplomat of the Sideshow community. |

I have to add that I did something that has always annoyed me and I now understand why people do it.
I walked over to meet Todd and was not expecting to be introduced to Ward Hall. When Todd introduced us I shook his hand and out of my mouth came "I have seen your show many times." I was searching for what to say next and what I was formulating was "It's an honor to meet you" but I was taking a tragically long time to create the words when Todd said "Well there you go!" and the moment was over. So many years of getting on an elevator on a ship and someone saying "I saw your show." I always thought AND? I thought they couldn't come up with anything nice to say so that is what came out but now I realize perhaps that is all they could come up with. Perhaps they were formulating more words too when the elevator stopped and the moment was over? It was an honor Mr. Hall! |

Ward Hall is both a great showman and a true gentleman...He's one of my favorite people and I always enjoy our conversations. I just wish our paths crossed more often.
I'm better known for my painting than as a performer and quite often a stranger will walk up and say " It's a pleasure to meet you" and sometimes they are gone just as quick leaving me to wonder " WHO did I just meet ?" |
