Superman (the first one)
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I meant the movie, but the TV series was also great. I remember when we were kids and George Reeves committed suicide, we all joked that Superman couldn't kill himself!

Star Trek Next Gen. and succeeding Star Treks as well. They were wonderful fun for years (still are actually).
I've enjoyed the StarGate TV series after the Movie. Not much into StarGate Universe but I didn't get too far in the story before it ended. I really liked return to OZ. Loved the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes. I liked the First Superman Movie with Christopher Reeve. Recent Chronicles of Narnia seems good but I haven't seen them all. -Mary Mowder |

I hated Return to Oz when I first saw it years ago but really liked it on later viewings. I guess I had to get over the fact it was a "Reboot" and not a sequal. (In that they didn't try to make if consistant with the old movie)

I know what you mean Mike.
I love The Wizard of OZ, Return to OZ just went another way. The Music and the Art Production in Return to OZ were great. Both were better than any OZ book I ever read. -Mary Mowder |

Disney was hoping to make a movie franchise out of them. But since the movie more or less bombed that plan was put on the back burner. I still think they own the rights to all but the first book. I personally enjoyed the film and like that they played up the dark aspects. I especially liked the design work on the wheelers. I had a friend who worked on some of the Claymation effects and I got to tour the studio as they were wrapping up the final scenes. Coincidentally they were also working on the first California Raisin commercial at the time so I got to see the set those were being filmed on as well. My favorite reboot at the moment is Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I thought they did a great job on the story and set up the next movie very well.

In the original Wizard of OZ they killed the witch by splashing water on her. Even as a kid I thought that was so arbitrary. Why would the witch be destroyed by water and why would she allow buckets of water to be laying around if she was?
In return to OZ the surprise ending is even more arbitrary. This seems like an awful cheat on Frank Baum's part. "Then just as the EVIL SOMETHING was about to destroy them, our hero accidently poured SOME RANDOM ITEM THAT IS NORMALY NOT THE LEAST BIT DANGEROUS on them and the EVIL SOMETHING dies horribly while explaing to the audience that this RANDOM ITEM is the one thing that can kill them. Does Frank Baum really use this cheat in the first two books? Does he continue to do this in each book? The OZ books are classics and obviously Baum did a lot right but it seems like he wrote himself into a corner and then took a very easy way out on the first two books. In regards to the Incredible Hulk, what happened there? I just recall they made a heavily CGI Hulk movie and then a while later made another one where the hulk was much larger. (or was it the other way around?) Why didn't they just make a sequal? If there were things that needed improving just improve them in the sequal, why start over? I'm just curious if any one has any info of insight into this particular case. |

I have to keep reminding myself that I want to see "Rise of the Planet of the Apes". Keep forgetting.
I like the Hammer re-boot of the Universal productions of the classic horror characters of the 30's and 40's. Dracula, Wolfman/Werewolf, Mummy, Frankenstein.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

That's funny Chessman that you mention the Hammer films. I am a huge fan of Universal's Horror movies especially Frankensten. The other day I decided to re-watch the Hammer Frankenstein movies and found them somwhat unpleasant.
I like Peter Cushing as an actor but in the Hammer Frankenstein's he is not a tortured genious but is actually a very bad person. He blackmails men and rapes women. (The hammer Frankenstein films focus more on the Scientist than the monster). I watched Frankenstein Must be Destoryed and one other one. I think one of the others in the series has a lighter touch and I might enjoy it more. I watched them years ago and have them all. Sorry if I'm rambling on folks. I usually post in the magic areas and I'm getting a kick out of this new area. |

The Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton was made to be a little closer to the TV Series (with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno) which most people remember Hulk by. Imho...

I actually thought the Ed Norton Hulk followed the comics a little closer than the Ang Lee one. Mostly. What was closer to the comics about the Ang Lee one was that the Hulk got bigger as he got madder. Ed Norton Hulk stayed the same size.
I didn't hate the Ang Lee version, but the one with Norton was way more fun.

What sucks is in the closing credits they billed Rickson as his "Aikido" instructor.
