Yes sir I am. There are entirely different principles employed when comparing Just a Cup to Evolution. Evolution is more like the classic chop cup with an additional clever feature. Just a Cup and Craig Petty's Chop require the use of an additional item (Sharpie) that is supplied. They are both equally effective but I never found the classic chop cup something that needed improvement.

If you could only buy one, Evolution or Just a Cup, which would you buy?

As Mr Mendez is unable or unwilling to answer, for the benefit of others, I will answer my own question "If you could only buy one, Evolution or Just a Cup, which would you buy?".
Having now had the opportunity to evaluate both, the answer would definitely be 'Just a Cup'. You can do a little more with it than Evolution, the props for 'Just a Cup' are examinable (not so with Evolution), and 'Just a cup' comes with an excellent instruction booklet (in English) and a detailed instructional dvd (also in English). Despite being sold to a large English speaking market now, and the extravagant cost , Evolution comes with Japanese-only instructions on a single flimsy piece of paper with minimalist drawings.

This arrived to me in yesterday's post. The prop is well made, cute and very clever. It really does allow you to show the inside of the cup before and after the appearance of a dice or ball and is everything the ad description claims it to be. I fooled my girlfriend minutes after opening the box and can now understand why the performance in the video was so deceptive. This would definitely fool a room full of magicians not in the know and lay people alike if that is your M.O. I; however, purchased this more out of curiosity and evaluationary purposes than for actual use. As an avid collector of the classic chop cup which I feel requires absolutely no improvements whatsoever, I don't see myself abandoning old faithful for this but it sure was fun to play with a little before listing it in the buy/sell arena for someone else to enjoy. I'd rather have a Wellington chop cup in brass as if I needed, yet, another chop cup to add to my massive collection Smile http://www.themagicmuseum.com/cabinet.html

Also had (and sold) the Evolution Chop Cup and it's very well made. The quality is everything it looks to be in the clip. Since it's not examinable and the routine is somewhat limited I switched to Axel Hecklau's "Just a cup" which I find way more versatile.

FTR I would also like chime in on Craig Petty's "Chop" which is an excellent, informal chop cup routine. I use it all the time for close up and "Just a cup" for stand up/parlor.

Just picked up evolution chop cup from the let's make a magic deal section for $100 bucks pretty much brand new. It's in perfect condition. I also have Axel Hecklaus just a cup on the way as well. So once I have both I will compare and contrast the two. I am absolutely IN LOVE with the evolution chop cup. It's insanely clever and sneaky. I'm almost angry it's so darn good. As others have said you absolutely cannot have it handed out and examined BUT....if handled properly will hold up perfectly to VISUAL inspection. It's very well made, top notch quality and something I will never get rid of. I'm very happy I was able to pick it up at such a low cost. The only down side I can see is that the instructions are in japanese. But from the pictures in the instructions and by simply playing with the darn thing you can figure it out pretty fast. I would suggest that if you have the money, pick it up. You won't be sorry.

Ok so here is my two cents on the Evolution Chop Cup and Just A Cup.

Firstly they are both insanely deviouse. You will absolutely kill with either of these. They are both very easy to use, need little actual sleight of hand, and will absolutely murder laymen and some magician not aware of the methods at play.

Individual Review of Evolution Chop Cup
This cup operates on the exact same principle as a normal chop cup in that the load and unload of the chopped item is exactly the same as a normal chop cup. Just drop the die in, do the scoop out move, place the cup down and reproduce the item. The added "special function" of this cup is that after the scoop out move you can indefinetly show the entire inside of the cup from any angle and under very close visual inspection. You can even put the cup mouth up if you want and then turn it back over and boom the die comes back. Another nice thing you can do with this is you can actually put two dice in the cup. Visibly remove them and put them in your pocked. Show the cup completely empty as stated before. Put the cup down and boom both dice come back. Absolutely killer. This cup is automatic completely self working.

Ok now for a few negatives. Not much. But a couple. The biggest negative is there cannot be any examination of the cup by the spectator other than visualy. DO NOT hand this cup out for physical examintion. If the cup is held mouth down and looked up into from underneath, your screwed and busted. Pack up and leave your performance cause you now look like a fool. The only other down side to this is that there is no dvd instruction and the written instructions are in japanese. However, by looking at the illistrations and playing around with the cup, it is very easy to figure out. I mastered this thing in 15 minutes.

Individual review of Just A Cup

This cup operates on a completely different principle then the cup above, or any other chop cup for that matter. The cup is completely normal and is not geffed in any way whatsoever. In fact you can use almost any cup you would like. Very good flexibility here. Al you really need is the special die and your special gimmick and you can do this trick with almost any cup. You can do things you just cant do with a chop cup. You can put the die down, cover it with the cup, and then you can decide by how you pick the cup up wether the die will be there or not. And with one simple little move you can show the inside of the cup emtpy very easily. Without giving too much away this uses the same method that one would use if you were to use a PK RING and a chopped die or ball. Same principle same handling BUT Axel Hecklau's gimmick is friggin invisible and is much easier to use. It also arouses absolutely no suspicion. At any point in the routine and I mean at any point you can hand out the cup and the die for physicall and visual examination. No questions asked without missing a beat hand it to them with no fear at all. You have the only dirty part of the trick not them. This comes with a dvd and instruction booklet (in english I might add) and you are taught the entire routine as well as extra ideas and handlings.

Ok now the negatives...............I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallyyyyy can't find anything wrong with this product at all. Honestly it's perfect, no complaints from me. I guess if I absolutely had to come up with one thing I would say that when the chop feature is being engaged it could be a tiny bit noisy if being done in like complete silence. But don't let this deter you from this effect. I really is perfect in my opinion.

So in closing I'm going to leave you with something I'v been playing around with these two effect. COMBINING THEM. I have found that the die from Just A Cup will work with the cup from Evolution Chop Cup. So in theory you could show and prove the cup is empty as many times as you want. Fist visually with the Evolution Chop Cup feature. Then again with the Just A Cup feature. I have done this and it work perfectly. The Just A Cup gimmick is strong enough to work through the Evolution Chop Cup just fine with no problems.

If I had to pick one I would pick Just A Cup as it is more versitle and can be used virtually with any cup and can be examined physically and visually at any time begining middle or end of the routine with no worries whatsoever. So any one on the fence about these two I recomment Just A Cup. But if you have the money definitly get both, play with both, and combine both. It is killer. Let me know some of the thought you guys have come up with and if you like this review. I hope this helps some of you make a decision if you are on the fence.

I have been using a polystyrene cup from any coffee bar and a borrowed note for years to do the just a cup type routine .
It’s years old in method and written up in very old magic books .
A tiny m..n.t under a tiny plaster does the job or a pk ring if you prefer . The steal out and vanish is invisible and sublime , I add a tiny m..n.t to the borrowed note as I roll it into a ball Gaz 🙂
