If you were like me, and you enjoyed Cameron's earlier work on impromptu card magic with his Moment's Notice e-book series, you'll be pleased that he has covered the same genre with new material in DVD format. While the Ultimate Impromptu Card Magic DVD is rather new on the market, I had a chance to look over it... it's excellent!
I hope to post a more thorough evaluation of the specific tricks later, but all the material on this DVD is strong magic that you can do with an ordinary, borrowed deck of cards. When I perform card magic, I tend not to have time to set things up in advance, or I borrow a friend's deck. While I have a good amount of fitting material already, I'm pleased to add some of Cameron's work into that collection. I really liked Hofwich and plan to start working on that one right away. I recommend it! You can get it straight through Cameron or your favorite dealer: http://cameron-francis.com/ultimate-impromptu-card-magic.php Jeff |

Thanks, Jeff! I'm very proud of this project. What's so great about the material is that it was hand picked by the people who bought the Moment's Notice ebooks. I asked them to choose their top ten effects for the project and I put them on there, plus three previously unpublished effects. The result is, I believe, a very strong collection of material.

I too have the entire Moment's Notice series, but it's a whole different thing to see them performed on video! I definitely looked over a few great tricks when reading the e-books. Plus, there's some new material!

That's just it. I love books. But I also love video. They both have advantages. I think this dvd makes a good stand-alone reference or a nice companion to the ebooks.

As I mentioned above I have the entire Moments series but bought the dvd anyway. I want to do a more detailed review, but the routine P#@$ssing Contest (which is not in his books) was worth the price of the dvd. I recommend this dvd to any card worker - also recommend the Moments 1-6.

Yes! Thank you for mentioning P---ing Contest! It might be my favorite trick on the DVD. I was hoping some people would dig it as much as I do. I think it's a lot of fun.

P---ing Contest is technically very easy to do and because of the premise allows three totally different effects to be presented as one quick routine. The part that is hard for me is developing the funny characters of the other two magicians - your presentation had me laughing out loud. Guess its that acting training huh?

You certainly don't have to act out the characters. You could just tell it. I think the magic is interesting enough for the spectators. I did it the way I did because I hadn't ever really done a trick with multiple characters and thought it would be fun to try.

Not sure whether I should post this here or in the latest and greatest section -- but here is my review of Cameron's DVD. Simply brilliant - -exactly what I was looking for and it delivered big time.
To help calibrate my review, I am an amateur magician who performs for friends, colleagues and family. I can handle basic sleights (DL, an OK EC with 4 cards, a force or two etc.) but self taught so probably not all that great. It has become increasingly clear to me that I need impromptu tricks as whenever I bring out anything it automatically gets heat. This is a big difference between someone like me and the pros (not to mention things like skill LOL) -- you expect a pro to have a bunch of props because they are there to entertain so natural to bring out some cards, coins etc. For me, it just looks hinky. I need to just grab someone's deck and do something cool. I have a few packet tricks and coins I keep on me, but mostly moving to ungimmicked stuff. First off I have no idea why Joe Diamond or others think Cameron does not have a good presentation style. I frankly love it. It is simple, humble and humerous -- exactly the type of patter I can get away with vice the more stereotypical magician persona. Again important to remember I perform for friends, so pretty much have to sound like me, not a character. The DVD starts off with Ace Thang/Sly Cheese which has a perfect patter, is a little challenging for me but just enough to make me practice not throw my hands in the air and quit. I will warn pure beginners that the DVD ranges between beginner and intermediate -- in fact the only negative to this DVD is Cameron assumes you know how to do most of the sleights. He does go over a few very briefly, and you can learn from them, but you need to stop a replay a lot. I think I may need to go buy the EC disk, as I can do it with 4 cards, but more seems really hard -- I probably learned it wrong, but not sure how to fix that. Intechangling is fun and easy. Hoftwhich I was lukewarm on, but learned it anyway. OK. this is why Cameron is a pro and I am not. I have now performed this 5 times and it gets great reactions -- so Hoftwhich is a winner. I am not a big fan of the long story effects -- Zombieland and another (I forget the title). The magic is strong, it just feels a little forced -- although to be fair, if I hadn't dseen all the other great stuff, I probably would rank it higher. I don't want to bore people. so will leave off with the P**sing Contest -- defintely need to learn some moves and sequences, but I love it. I will have to adapt the story a bit to accents I can do, but what a fun trick. So for me this disk is a rare Truifects: (a) Great Guy; (b) Great magic and (c) Great bargain (lots of magic for low price). If you are an amateur like me go get it. Heck there is a force on the disk that will be worth the price alone -- I use it all the time now. |

How difficult are the effects?
You need to know your way around a deck of cards - it's not self working effects Creator: Cameron Francis Publisher: Big Blind Media MSRP: $ 35 Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced DVD length: 1 hour and 35 minutes Type of effect: Collection of card magic Manufacturer's Write Up: How often has this happened to you - you're at a party and someone comes up and says 'hey, I hear you're a magician... can you show me a trick?'. Your mind goes blank. You have none of your gear with you - no thumb tip, no sharpie, no gaff decks, no magnetic ring, nothing. All you have is a deck of cards. (Or maybe your new friend hands you THEIR deck!). On Ultimate Impromptu Card Magic Cameron Francis has collected together a host of absolutely KILLER magic that you can unleash at a moment's notice. These 14 routines are easy to perform, but shockingly powerful. Learn these tricks and you'll NEVER be stuck for a spectator frying miracle again!! Easy to do No props required (other than a deck of cards) Perform any time, any where, with anyone's deck (even missing some cards) No setups needed All strong material - no filler How accurate is the ad copy? I would argue that these tricks are only "easy" if you are proficient in card magic. You need to know your way around a deck of cards. This DVD is included in the Essential Card Magic collection - at the end of the collection (meaning, you need to have experienced the rest of the collection BEFORE you start the effects on this DVD) What's in the box? DVD only Key points: A collection of mind-blowing card magic that you can perform with ANY borrowed deck. NO SETUPS. NO PROPS. NO GAFFS. How are the production values: Big Blind Media is wonderful, great shots, well edited and laid out with navigatable menus. Is it well taught: Cameron Francis is someone I really like, really like their effects, and the best part is, his teaching is amazing, you will know exactly what to do My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): this is a great collection of impromptu magic with any deck. You don't need a sharpie, billets, business cards or any other props. This is a skill people. Lots of real world, very practical workers. My advice, if this is a DVD you might want to pick up, save your pennies and get the Essential Card Magic Tool Box Overall score: 10/10 + If you want to see my full review with even more of my opinions and ideas you can visit this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0LpYM5SSHY |

That's what I love about a review: no real information but a 10/10 rating.

"no real information" Only my thoughts, production values, teaching, what's included in the box and if the add copy is deceptive, plus you can always watch my video review for more information. How do you define "real" information? If you want the trick listing:
