Thanks Mark, it is an honor to meet you here.
I have also read Mike Ince's routine and believe I saw it on a youtube clip. It was hilarous, entertaining and even fooled me and was disappointed that it was here in this manuscript! Mike's combination of ideas is great thinking here and yet another wonderful bit that alone is of value. I doubt many will perform it as Mike does, but if they do it will be most remembered. I'm glad you enjoyed my routine, Scott. It's the oddest, most unexpected routine I do, usually comes in the middle of my set, and is only performed for fun-loving audiences who have already come to like me. Whether they like me afterward is another matter and partially depends on what I'm wearing. So far I've gotten strong laughs followed by astonishment which is what I had hoped for that part of my show. Actually, the basic structure first came from a Barrie Richardson effect; I just needed to add my own presentation and change the mechanics to suit me.
So glad you enjoyed reading my description. I'm glad to be published alongside the other MP guys, I was hopeful it wouldn't accidentally lower the overall production value of the ebook.

I'm just gonna to say it: I'm with you on that! je ne se quoi, but he's got it. Business side / Quirky-Update-Trendy-Brilliant Mentalism side. Re the e-book: The Seeing-with-the-fingertips routines we've seen recently have too be honest left me totally uninspired, despite the clever blend of methods in Sean Waters effect and the fact I had no clue what was going on in Jermay's ... but clearly they inspired Dale ... His effect Skintone is IMHO the best I've read ... It has multiple Visually, Different and Interesting Phases and the methodology allows you to draw on a large spectrum of your mentalist skills. I will be devoting some practise to this one. Cannot believe I hadn't heard of Dale till recently.

Actually the lack of response to Sean's fingertip effect and his book in general has me genuinely baffled. I loved his presentation-- but I definitely agree with you about Dale's work-- all his stuff comes from such an oblique angle it always surprises me. And I'm a recently recruited fan too-- I've said it several times elsewhere I use a couple of his things in my Aura drawing work and I think it's like they make it bigger, more rounded or something. d

Dave, got some cracking responses to the Sean's routine, actually some REALLY cracking responses... but it just didn't grab ME by the balls. Dale's did.
But I see what your saying I'm surprised we don't hear more about Contemplations, Wonders ... they are TWO AMAZING compilations of top-notch material. Ode to Ekman is in my new act. LOVE IT. FOREVER JUNG

So I’ve finished reading my review copy of this ebook several days ago. Just as an aside, I’m not a member of the MP forum and I don’t know most of the authors.
So this ebook has quite a bit of routines by different authors, with different styles and approaches which is something I find quite pleasant as that gives you a higher probability of finding something that might suit your style. My favorite routine was “A dream dinner” by Dr. Spektor and I must say I wasn’t expecting it when I first read it…damn it’s really a lovely piece. It reminded me a bit of one of the routines Nefesch took to “Who wants to be the next Uri Geller?” Greece. It’s a very well structured and powerful routine, which with the right setting and tempo is as powerful as one can only dream of (pun intended). I laughed a lot from Mike Ince’s routine, looks something very fun to watch but it’s something that I won’t perform ever as it doesn’t fit my persona The routine overall is nice but it was something that didn’t rock your pants off. In the rest of the book you still get a lot of content, Pablo and Mauricio pieces are around pendulums (it’s no accident that they’re the South American pendulum bros), Rich gives a quick routine using one of his creations, Mark Robertson’s routine is well explained but also doesn’t fit my style, Dave Moses explains a bank nigh’ish routine with a very simple handling, several pieces by Iain Dunford, a powerful multi-phase routine by Dale Hildebrandt and a finally a nice routine by Joshua Quinn. There’s also a very nice envelope by Harrison Richards which looks quite good, another tool for your tool belt. I only have a couple of cons to point about the book: I found a couple of typos and small mistakes that I’m sure could have been caught with a more careful editing. Second, I find that there should be some kind of routine template that all authors should follow. All over the book each author uses his own way of structuring things which gets a bit annoying as sometimes the explanation is mixed with the performance explanation, or there isn’t an effect description so in order to get what going on you have to go through most of the performance explanation. Personally I prefer having an effect description, followed by an explanation and followed by a performance section where the author can explain with a sample script all the interaction with the participants, timing and details about the routine. Despite the cons, I find this to be a great ebook with lots of workable pieces, 5*. David |

I take your point about wanting the effects to be standardized -- but here's a counterpoint. As someone who puts together routines from other performers into eBooks, I have to tell you that attempting to "standardize" their work is nearly always a mistake.
In the first place, you tend to lose the flavor of their work. There's a freshness to the original manuscript that can get lost when you try to cram it into a template. Second: I think you lose some of the individual's voice...which, to my mind, isn't the same as "flavor." Each contributor has their own preference for how the effect is unveiled, how it unfolds. For some it's the storytelling that matters...others are all about method. Finally -- you run a great risk of muddying the waters. I recall an occasion where the placement of a comma vastly changed the meaning of a sentence and consequently could have caused some real problems. Personally I really prefer to read the original routines the way the designer intended them to be presented. The skill required for the person compiling the eBook is to ensure that there's a good balance of routines -- that the compliment each other and provide a real variety for the reader. You don't just take everything you get and slam it into a PDF. I think the MP book has done a splendid job of providing variety. And there certainly are some very different voices and styles represented in the MP book. David

Hi David, first of all let me tell you that I understand 100% what you mean and agree with you.
What I meant was not the editor to change the authors routine but the authors themselves try to conform to some kind of standard about the book when they submit their work, do you see what I mean? It didn't have to be a super strict template but at least something that would provide some homogeneity to the reader. In any case this is only a personal preference and I believe that other ppl might even find that this kind of uniform writing might be a bit boring to read David |

The Mystery Performers Collection ebook is a sampler of work from many people. Part of the fun is in the surprise, not knowing what kind of piece comes next until you turn the page. I'm puzzled at how quiet the opening was for this book. It's been six months.
