Condi Rice and Alan Keyes ran for president against Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Stop it, Lobo! You just made me spit out my coffee!

Tommy's supposed to start the rabble rousing threads. We're not supposed to chime in until later - just before they get deleted.

Never gonna happen. Everyone knows those 4 are genuine natural born Americans. The only ones getting through nowadays are manchurian candidates.

It would certainly put an end to the rants of lots of folks out there who really believe that folks who oppose President Obama are right wing extremist racists and are angry because there's a black man in the White House. Smile
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

Or possibly he's talking about the folks who enjoyed the tune made popular by Rush Limbaugh?

I suspect that what he means is more like the fact that Obama got a higher percentage of the white vote than both Kerry* and Gore* before him, and the same percentage as Clinton*, your shocking discovery of any racism at all in a country of more than 300 million notwithstanding.

*President Clinton, and candidates Kerry and Gore were white.

He's probably not talking about them, or even about the people holding the most offensive of the offensive signs in the earlier link. I suspect that the sign-carriers or song-enjoyers weren't any more fond of, say, Clinton. Even if they're racists, that doesn't mean it's the (primary) reason for their opposition to Obama as President.

President Clinton was the blackest President we ever had.
He once uttered "You can kiss my black ***" at a lecture
here in San Diego to thunderous laughter and applause.

Yes, by all means, let's legitimize hatred and bigotry. After all, out of 300 million there's only a few of them doing it.

It depends what you mean by "legitimize." You're certainly legally allowed to think whatever you want, and you're allowed to say almost anything you want.

If you mean, though, that people who espoused racist views should be marginalized in the court of public opinion, that makes sense. And yet you've remained entirely silent when I've brought up the cases of Jesse Jackson, who got MILLIONS of votes to become the Democratic nominee for President after referring to New York City has "Hymietown," and you also remained silent about the fact that Al Sharpton was given a featured speaker spot at the Democratic National Convention after being found liable for slander and making his racist "diamond merchants" remark. So I don't find your selective outrage particularly compelling.

No, I'm with you, Lobo. We should allow hatred and bigotry to go unchallenged when ever possible. In fact, let's make excuses for it. I'm sure in the end they mean well.

Yes, I assumed that was your position when you let it go unchallenged with respect to the Jackson and Sharpton references. I was surprised to see you stray from it with respect to the Obama detractors.

Pre-emptive response in anticipation of Landmark's reference to Jackson's later apology. Yes, he did apologize, and I appreciate that you took his apology to be sincere (and perhaps it was). The apology came after first lying about whether he'd made the remarks, and attributing the story to a Jewish conspiracy against him. But that's all neither here nor there; the reference to Jackson in this context is far less about him than it is about the millions of people who voted for him a few months later.

I agree with you Lobo. But the post I am responding to gave the impression that racism plays no role at all in opposition to Obama and seems to question whether there really are such things as right wing extremists. They do exist and the racism is out there. And when they loudly oppose everything the President does - even when he takes positions originally offered by Republicans - it's hard to see how racism isn't a factor.
