It's not about the judge (at least I'm pretty sure it's not about the judge. Nobody's supporting him as far as I can see). It's about selective indignation.

I'm not selective at all. I would apply the same standard to all federal judges. And I don't think it helps to lump a federal judge's conduct in with everyone else's.

I agree with you about the selective indignation often exhibited by both sides. But my point is that it is too often used simply to distract and deflect from a specific issue. Rather than respond to issues, far too many simply avoid them with the "he did it too" argument. And, very often, the examples cited are false equivalencies.

I think it's obvious that any flaws portrayed by people on "our side" will always be fluffed over. This goes for people on the right and the left of any political arguments.

I'm watching all this brouhaha over Rush's comments and demands that his advertisers drop him... I don't remember this much happening when Imus made his "skanky hoes" remark.

Thank you!

I would like to go on record with the observation that Justice Clarence Thomas is the greatest living American.

Read his book and find out for yourself!

As I suspect you know, my "selective" comment was not intended to apply to you. I have the highest regard for not only your knowledge and rational argumentation, but also your intellectual honesty.

I agree that it can be (and is too often) used simply to distract and deflect from a specific issue. However, the individual and selective cases are also too often used to justify overbroad and ideological claims (such as the recently-deleted claim that ONE example of racism proves that all criticism of President Obama is racially motivated, and nobody who agrees gets to go to heaven).

Also, too often, the individual cases are used as pretexts by people trying to generate broader ideological capital, and it's a fool's errand to engage too heavily in the discussion with those people, even when there's a potentially important point in there. But I'm always happy to delve into the topics with people who are rational and honest.

Really? Imus was fired, if you recall. I don't see that happening to Limbaugh.

Bob, I just don't see any value in comparing how many folks from various ethnic groups we know and respect. And since I've been to about 35 states and 25 countries, and am married to a Columbian woman, I'm not sure it's a fair fight, as they say.

Well I'm not. If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything.

Some things I am very happy to be known fighting for and against, and this definitely qualifies.

Carry on your "fight" Chance, because that's just what you are doing here, fighting. YOU don't find my promoting women and minorities important? Are you nuts? I was doing it before it was the right thing to do; probably before you even knew you were a bleeding heart liberal. I don't give a hoot about race or any of the other bull maneure that your one sided position incessantly imposes on my fair minded other side.

And just what is it you're fighting for?

I'll one up you here. I've beeen to every state in this great country of ours except for Oregon. I lived in Hong Kong and The Netherlands (pure capitalsim in the former when I was there, and pure socialism in the latter to this day....thoughts for a further discussion) for a combined total of five years. I've been to all the continents and that includes Antarcica, and have visited more ****ries than the twenty-five you mention. So what? You claim to know and understand every culture you've been exposed to? I think not. You sound like the average American tourist who visits a country for a day or so and then becomes an expert.

And what does your marrying a Columbian have to do with anything? I expect you'll say it makes you an expert on Columbians. Me, I married an Irish Catholic with genealogy roots back a few hundred years. Does that make me an expert on Irish Catholics? I don't think so.

Enjoy your folly. Smile

You know I think people should be able to say anything they want. At least then you would know where they stood on issues. The problem I have is with phonies. People who pretend to be one way and then you find out they are not that way at all. I look at every person on an individual level. If a person is white, black, asian, or whatever. I see how that person conducts himself. The leader of Iran for example to me is a person I absolutely can not stand. But I know where he stands and I respect him for his honesty on his hatred of Israel. I DO NOT respect him for his hatred---just his honesty. It makes it easy for me to say "I don't like him because of his views." People who backbite or tell "Those ---- Jokes" (You know the ones that start with the joke teller looking both ways first) but pretend to be someone else. They are the ones I just don't feel comfortable around. If I don't like someone it will never be for what they are but for who they are.

Good magic to all,

Were there people demanding his sponsors quit the show? Were there petitions being circulated as are being done now. Incidently, Imus found another job.

Re Limbaugh being fired: I don't see how that can happen since he owns a majority of the show. I'm afraid probably the best that can be done in this case is to shame the current advertisers and stations into dropping him, which would lead to him having to drop his rates to attract others.
