Hi! I am a born-again-beginner. I was a beginner about 40 years ago and then stopped my magic hobby when I got involved with my career and starting a family.
Now that I am retired I got a job teaching computers at a private school (preK to 8th grade). Magic is a great way to keep the students focused. I pulled out my old suitcase, practiced, and started showing the classes 1 trick per week. (I have 20 classes per week). I discovered that I needed more tricks in my inventory. I pulled out my old books and bought newer tricks from Ebay and magic shops and then I realized a need to keep everything organized and decided to utilize my other hobby, database development, using Filemaker. Besides inventory, I would like to include features that other magicians could use. If it's something others find useful, I would provide it as either shareware or freeware, depending on how much effort goes into developing the program and support. I will start working on this database soon but I need some input from experienced magicians. What would you like to see in a "Magician's computer program"? such as: Inventory : location, category, price, supplier, date, photo, usefullness, etc. Trick expertise: none, need practice, proficient, good, etc. Promotional: video performing, photos, flyers, posters, references, etc Instructions : location, printout, books, DVD, VHS, weblink, etc. Perfomance schedule: Where, who, date, directions, type, etc. Performance history: Reactions, bad & good experiences Magic clubs: meetings, dates, comments, etc. Contacts: magicians, suppliers, customers, etc. Support: upgrades, customization, phone, etc. Correspondence: letters, thank you, resume, email support, etc. There will be many more additions as I work on it and get feedback from magicians. Perhaps this has already been done. If it has, please let me know so that I do not waste my retirement years reinventing the wheel. Thank you, Ihor Lukiw Springfield, NJ USA

Yes, I think it's been done. And advertised here but I can't seem to recall the name.

How about an easy to do website using a simple form?

It seems expensive but from looking at the User Guide, I'm sure a lot of time went into the program. Thank you for the information. I can now spend my time practicing my routines. Ihor There is no point in me doing this if it has already been done.

The only criticism I have is the user friendliness and the look & feel (cosmetic) appearance of the program. Aside from that, it is well done. I don't think I could improve on his work.

Yes, MagicBase isn't particularly nice to look at. I played with it a few years ago but in the end didn't bother with it and stuck to Works, or more recently, Open Office which is free.
