Hey guys and gals.
I am in need of your assistance. Specifically if you were born and raised in Europe! I am collecting voice samples for the IDEA website. I am working with one of the websites editors to get more diverse and up to date samples. http://web.ku.edu/~idea/ It is a website designed to provide audio samples of dialects for professionals for voice work. (example: I'm an actor who can go on there and find a REAL cockney accent to learn from. Etc....) If you are in Europe and want to donate a recording of your voice- please email me through my email I list below. I would love to get a few TODAY even. If you are not from Europe and are still interested- please feel free to email me and ask anyway. Please, email me with your name and location your currently live, and I will email you back with instructions on how to make this happen. Thanks everyone. -Jacob JacobHatfield@me.com

I also wanted to mention that even though I'm helping the editor of the site- this is also being used in a class I am enrolled in a collegic course on voice use and this is something that I would love to use to talk about dialects. Anyone willing to help would be greatly appreciated.

A little plead for some more people. Would love your help.
All I would be asking you to do is record yourself reading a paragraph of text and then telling a story. All in all, 5 mins of your time. If you have an iPhone or iDevice, it makes the process even easier to do. (You can record and send all from your device.) Look forward to hearing from you! -Jacob

Hey everyone.
Wanted to say thanks to everyone I have heard from (email and pm). Wanted to also mention that just because your region has been recorded or a country has been "covered" as some of you have saw, we want more. The more we have the better. Some of the recordings are not the best. Look forward to hearing from more of you. Jacob.

Jacob, it's a very interesting project, and I appreciate your pointing it out to us.
I didn't repond because my dialect wouldn't really be useful to you. Trust me on that. Also, I assume you are aware of this project, but if not you might find it useful in some way: http://aschmann.net/AmEng/ You might also want to pass on my criticism of the website, which would be that there ought to be narrow phonetic transcriptions of at least key words and phrases (those targeted for allophonic variation) for ALL of the sound clips. Yes, the task would be huge: but in the end the website would be MUCH more useful--in my own humble opinion, of course. |
