A few months ago I published plans for a DIY remote control spirit bell. It had its advantages over some other models but it wasn't for everyone, since you couldn't use it in extreme close-up or in strong lights. Anyway, I've done some more work and here is a version that gets round those limitations.
Here's a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpvW5SfxAls and here's where you can get the plans http://magicnook.com/Magi-tronics/MT01-0......Bell.htm

Is this within the abilities of someone with little electronics experience? Do you also provide sources for all the materials? Looks good!

You need to be able to solder, but there is actually very little soldering involved. All the more specialist parts are available on Ebay, and I give details of how to find them. Ebay listings change constantly so I can't guarantee that any named supplier will continue to stock them but I am confident that you will be able to get everything you need.

Just make sure you read the top of the Magi-tronics Catalog page: "These effects all require some knowledge of electronics. It is assumed you know how to solder electronic components and can read simple electronic diagrams. It is not really meant for beginners, although you have to start somewhere. If you enjoy hanging around Radio Shack or other electronic stores, and know the difference between a diode and a transistor you might be able to build these projects. The authors will endeavor to help make things clear, but they can't come to your house and hold your hand."
If electronics is not for you, there are alternate methods for all of these effects that are not electrical or electronic. If you don't know where to find them, send me an e-mail at magicnook@yahoo.com and I'll help you find them.

There's a close up video at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oou80_dI9Qg On the matter of construction, although what Spellbinder says is true, there are only six components, so although it's hard to judge what other people will find challenging, I would say that this is one of my easier projects.

Your spirit bell seems very simple and innocent in outward design and assembly as to be quite disarming and deceptive.
One of the less contrived looking models I have seen. THat is a real plus and strength to my way of thinking. K. |

Flip Disc (Doug Ries) has made a very nice version of this using a "Guardian" bell as used by superstitious motorcyclists

The Motorcycle bell is to keep road gremlims from your bike!
The ringing of the bell annoys them, and keeps them away, while bike is being rode! But,the proper bell to use on your bike, must be a gift from someone else! Do not buy your own biker bell for yourself!!! Biker Bell looks pretty cool, for 'Spirit Bell' too! ~G

Is this still available? The link doesn't seem to work any longer. If not, does anyone know of any similar spirit bells?
