So for the past 7 or 8 months I have steped up my practice a lot I'm now practicing around 2-2.5 hours a day on weekdays and up to 3 or 4 on the weekends. For around the past month or two I have had this weird sensation in my right hand. So its kind of a tickle that will run up the outer side of my forarm around to the top of my hand .I will feel this tickle if I lay my hand on the table and roll my fingers on the table, the tingle will sometimes be right on top of my hand and run down the top of my forarm if I do this motion. I feel the tickle feeling when I deal seconds too. Im not sure what this is, I don't think its carpel tunnel beacuse that occurs on the bottom of the wrist and is painful (i feel no pain in my hand). I am scared beacuse I love my art and don't want to lose the major love of my life so early (im 16) if anyone could offer advice you have no idea how much I would appreciate it as I love this art more than anything and want to keep practaing for the rest of my life.
Respectfully David P.S. I sit at a normal sized desk and my room is always cold if that helps at all. and remember no pain at all just a tickle/tingle |

You could have an impingement in your neck or shoulder caused by your upper body remaining in the same position for a prolonged period of time. Learning some stretching exercises for your upper back and shoulders may help. It's probably not originating from your arm or hand. Having said that, I'm not an M.D., so if it continues, see an orthopedic doctor.

Well Dave you should ask a Doctor but I would not worry too much about it.
I would say, for what its worh, just give them a rest. Practice something else for now like acting. The hands are very complex things and they do change as we go through life. A good book on drawing hands, which shows you just how complex they are is this http://www.scribd.com/doc/961563/Drawing-Dynamic-Hands it goes into all of it.

I would take more frequent breaks. Also, if you google upper back/shoulder stretching, you'll find exercises you can do to ease the tightness.

Take fifteen minutes out of every sixty, do the stretches. Warm up before hand.
Also, keep in mind you are probably exercising certain muscles, whilst neglecting other surrounding muscles. Compensatory exercise may help with this. Try squeezing squash balls for a few minutes from time to time, for instance. |

While maybe not the immediate solution for your current problem (if it remains I would visit a doctor) you might want to check out the works of Greg Irwin regarding finger fitness.
Best regards and hope you feel better soon, Sven

Hire a croupier.

David,
Just a shot in the dark, but try a table set at a different height, or an adjustable table so you can keep from being to static in one position and therefore over taxing a particular muscle or tendon. As an added bonus, you will be familliarizing yourself with dealing at different table set ups. Just a thought. I hope you feel better soon. |

Could be carpal tunnel syndrome. You should give it a rest for a week. If you still have the problem, definitely see a doctor. Continued use will make it worse.

Sounds like a possible pinched nerve. The one commonly known as your funny bone will produce a similar feeling running through your arm and outer fingers.
