Hello,
Can anyone recommend a marking system for numbering cards 1-52 for close up with restaurant lighting? Thank you very much, Danny |

I've heard Ted Lesley has a good marking system for the entire deck, but I don't actually know it.
Thirteen Steps to Mentalism has some suggestions for marking cards, but I don't think it covers marking the entire deck. You might be able to adapt the techniques to whatever your needs are. |

Thanks Richard,
That's just what I was looking for and have ordered it from Lybrary.com Best wishes, Danny |

I made my own marked bicycle deck using this method.

I can vouch for the above method, in that it is very easy to do, very cheap to do, easy to memorize, and looks nice.
That said, there is probably a less obvious way to do it. |

Don't agree. All you have to do with this deck is riffle it and watch the spots jump around, like a cartoon movie. If the spectator was so inclined, and that's what I do when someone shows me a card trick. Definitely would not work in a poker game. Based on the Deland deck?
BTW I really like your name, Eric the Awful.

Is there any marked method that's riffle-proof?

I don't know if there is another marked method, but marking them on the corners sticks out more than marking them in the middle of the card.
Try a shuffle and notice the area least exposed, I think it would be in the middle of the card. I do remember a special pair of glasses and an invisible ink that could only be seen with those glasses.

Just remembered I have a Stereogram deck, it has a hidden 3D image on the back of every card.

Is there a better ink to use other than a Sharpie? In the past when I've used a Sharpie it has had a tendency to leave a shiny spot on the card.
Thanks, Frank |

Many of the experts (of which I am not!) say that blue ink is very hard to match, and recommend only doing red decks.
There all also methods that change the reflectivity of the surface of the cards so that (without using special glasses) a pattern can be read in the “shine” of the card; likewise for tinted areas causing a kind of “shadow”. These are very subtle markings, and can take much practice to “see” acurately. Also some kinds of metallic waxes can be applied which will cause certain cards to stand out, and which can later be removed simply by wiping off the wax. This is a slight upgrade from the older methods of bending corners and making nail nicks. While the prices keep the merely curious at bay, this website may prove an interesting study to those who are willing to sniff out the secrets. http://marked-cards.com/default.htm
...what if I could read your mind?
