When trying to come up with a Tenyo trick I sometimes doodle.
Let me explain how I REALLY came up with Prison Box. I drew a rectangle on a piece of paper. There was not enough info on the paper for me to progress so I then drew two vertical lines dividing the rectangle into thirds. I then asked myself (in my head ![]() Again, there was not enough info so I drew a circle in one section. Again I thought to myself... is this a ball? A ring? The end of a tube? I said to myself it was a ball and the ball was in one section of a box divided into three. I immediately thought of the Monkey bar effect as the association of division of three, hit me. So the effect I was going with was that the ball will jump from one end of the compartment to the other end and then to the middle. I then thought to myself that may not be baffling as my audience would just think I had a duplicate or trick ball. So I thought wouldn't it be cool if maybe I used a borrowed ring? So I went with that option. I didn't like the idea of a spectator's ring rattling around in a box in case of damage so I needed to secure it and added a rod to one end to thread the ring on it. Of course I had to add a rod to each of the other sections too so all would match. This was shaping up nicely into a Monkey bar effect with a borrowed ring. I didn't have a method yet, just an effect. So I figured it would be too complex to get the ring off the bolt and then on to another bolt all very quickly. So it hit me that if the ring can't move then the............. ![]() To sum up - draw some shapes, objects or doodles, take s step back, look at it from different angles, add more doodles, look at it again and repeat. Of course this would not be suitable for everyone as this is designing from scratch with no plot or method in mind. This is useful if you want to have a go at designing a Tenyo trick. I have just started collecting Tenyo effects I only have one now this one is next it's a must have item.
I better get two so I'll have one as a spare backup while I can still find them. It's an honor to have the actual inventor on the forum telling the story of how it was really created! I have watched several video's with Prison Box and have yet to figure out the method used to get it to the center that quick with one hand. Excellent effect! Thanks for inventing this great effect and for coming to the forum with the story! Richard "It's An Illusion. Unless I Can't Fix It, Then It's A Reality"
